Eircode/postcode edit

Hi. My understanding of WP:DIRECTORY and related guidelines is that the project isn't geared towards including content better suited to a street directory or the yellow pages. As such I do not see what value the inclusion of the postcode/eircode has for the reader. Does it help him distinguish the stadium from another 45,000-seat stadium next-door? Does it help her send a postcard to Frank Murphy? Arrange an Uber? What purpose does the eircode serve in an encyclopedic context? (I would note that we don't have postcodes in the articles on Old Trafford (likely as there's little chance of a DAB issue), or the MCG (likely as there's little chance of not finding the 100,000-seat arena), or the Rose Bowl, or Madison Square Garden, or similar stadia. It adds no value in the context. And just serves to clutter-up the infobox and obscure more relevant content.) Delighted to hear other thoughts. Guliolopez (talk) 13:42, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

COMMON v OFFICIAL (sponsorship) names edit

Hi. Just to confirm, and in case anyone is tempted to re-title this article preemptively, the following guidelines and norms advocate against "automatically" moving articles with every sponsorship or naming-rights agreement:

  • WP:OFFICIALNAMES - which confirms that official/sponsorship names change frequently and may not enter the zeitgeist ("The preference for common names avoids [..the problem that..] sponsored sports [..] venues change whenever a sponsorship agreement begins or ends"),
  • WP:COMMONNAME - which establishes that "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's 'official' [sponsorship] name" and "generally prefers the name that is most commonly used [in a] significant majority of independent, reliable, English-language sources", and
  • WP:CONVENTION - as established in multiple, related, discussions, there is a long-standing convention that stadia articles are only titled to reflect a (potentially short-lived) naming-rights agreement, if there was no pre-existing/established name. (This convention being particularly well-establish for articles on stadia in Ireland and Britain.)

In short, and just to get ahead of any potentially bold or undiscussed moves, change to this article's title would undoubtedly be disputed, would not be uncontroversial, and would not (IMO) be directly supported by guideline or convention. Guliolopez (talk) 12:00, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
