Who are the militants?

the infobox links to the Syrians page which is not that helpful Abo Yemen 16:33, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think it should just show Syria as opposed to "Syrian militants." According to Al Jazeera, Syria's air defense systems are being used, thereby making the Syrian government involved: https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2023/10/12/israel-cripples-syrias-two-main-airports-in-attacks-syrian-state-media AmericanBaath (talk) 18:20, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Or show the Syrian Air Defense Force instead? Abo Yemen 15:29, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

There is no such thing called "Syrian militants", the perpetrators were, according to SOHR, Palestinian Islamic Jihad who had shelled Israel throughout the civil war, lastly in September, and Israel was in the habit of conducting air raids against Syrian airports. Therefore, there is nothing notable to mention here. Had the proper Syrian army been involved effectively in the skirmishes, then this article should be created. 08:44, 13 October 2023 (UTC) 2A02:908:4E3:9520:712D:AA45:21ED:1945 (talk) 08:44, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

These issues seem to be largely reasons for improvement, not deletion. Iskandar323 (talk) 08:51, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Iskandar323: I totally disagree, because as I wrote the shelling came from non-Syrian combatant, so why should you exaggerate as such Syrian army was involved? All that happened some random shelling from Palestinians allies with Hezbollah in the region, that even occurred in September where Israel retaliated by killing two Palestinians riding a motorcycle across the border on 21st of that month source. We should only consider such reporting when Syria admits that their army targeted Israel, in addition the title is misleading as Syria did not even respond, even after airstrikes on their main airports! 2A02:908:4E3:9520:712D:AA45:21ED:1945 (talk) 09:41, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
At the time of your writing this, the page no longer said that the Syrian army was involved, and I certainly agree that the overall details remain murky. The 'exchanges' are very real though. Iskandar323 (talk) 09:52, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Iskandar323: I highly recommend to merge this article with the other, October 2023 Hezbollah strike, and change that title as well, to include both skirmishes. 2A02:908:4E3:9520:712D:AA45:21ED:1945 (talk) 10:22, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Renaming this page to October 2023 Israel–Hezbollah Golan fire exchanges to fit better with reality. In case other militias are involved - we can reconsider.GreyShark (dibra) 09:52, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

This page has too many problems to fix.

  • These attacks don't involve Hezbollah; none of the source suggest it, nor do any pronouncements by the group.
  • These aren't presented by any publication as a military engagement w/ Syria as a whole.
  • Most of the material around actual exchanges of fire between Israeli and Hezbollah forces are on the other page, with a much longer timeline.
  • The allegations in the article that somehow Syria and Hezbollah are related and this is coordinated with attacks from groups in Lebanon are both synth and dangerously politicized.

I've merged the few sourced notable statements (about attacks from/to Syria) into the main article on the war; redirecting this article to October 2023 Hezbollah strike which is what people seeing the title would expect: something actually about Hezbollah. – SJ + 20:07, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
