Nureddin Pasha was only one of the commanders of the Turkish army, and even Ataturk himself did not think very highly of him, which he made very clear in his speech (Nutuk) that he made in Turkish parliament where he gave the full account of the independence war from 1919 to 1923. According to Ataturk, Nureddin Pasha was a commander who required constant supervision, many other other commanders and members of the parliament had complaints about his command and character. It is well known that Greek forces set Izmir on fire while escaping, and later Nureddin Pasha set (or let set) other neighborhoods of Izmir, from which Ataturk himself escaped narrowly. Nureddin Pasha became a member of the Turkish parliament and retired from the army in 1925. I would also like to see a NPOV document to prove that he actually gave such an order, otherwise remove it please.

This article does not give a fair account, neither Ottoman empire nor Republic of Turkey had an official policy for Genocide. Certain historians prefer to call it genocide, and others don't. Intercommunal fights do not qualify for genocide, but even in that case, those issues do not belong to this article. There are articles in wikipedia about this so-called armenian genocide and these issues should be discussed there. It is really sinister to put little remarks here and there in unrelated articles to advance a certain agenda.

I also protest wiglaf in strongest terms for blocking my access and accusing me of "second genocide"!! I only removed things that did not belong in place. Linking to a page full of greek propaganda about what might have happened in Anatolia 85 years ago certainly does not belong to Izmir page which is about the city today. These things belong to Smyrna page, and in that page both sides of the conflict should be given equal access instead of asuming Turks as bloodthirsty monsters. If wiki administrators are serious about NPOV, they should demonstrate it better than blocking access by assumptions!

wiglaf sent me some references about the number of greeks, armenians etc. in Izmir. Some of these are british sources, who were part of the conflict, hence not NPOV. It is well known that Britain did everything to make USA part of the war, this also includes inciting religous hatred. British parliament later on accepted that some of the books written in that era was the production of war propaganda department. In short, either both sides should write their POV, or better yet no POV should remain in articles at all. This article is NOT about armenian or any other so-called genocide, this is about a commander in independence war. It is NOT appropriate to make subjective comments on the policies of Republic of Turkey in this article. I will remove that part once again, because it does NOT belong here. I hope we can discuss these things in a better way instead of blocking my access based on false assumptions!!

Murders and massacres.

He ordered several murders and massacres. This is indisputable. I don't see where is the problem. To hide these facts is problematic, I think. Jingiby (talk) 04:18, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
