Category question edit

Why is National Youth Choir of Scotland in the Catagory of liberal democracies? I mean how is that catagory appearing at the bottom of the NYCofScotland page? I couldn't find anything in the source script for the page. Amit@Talk 16:00, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

NYCoS edit

It's the same organisation. Same website. I know, I sing for them! DeMoN2009 20:46, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merge Proposal edit

It has been proposed since April 2015 that National Boys Choir be merged into National Youth Choir of Scotland (the proposer didn't tag this page or set up a discussion). It looks like National Boys Choir doesn't have much info (and no references), so I would support the merge. Thoughts? Ajpolino (talk) 02:27, 13 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Done Went ahead and merged as uncontroversial. Ajpolino (talk) 16:10, 7 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

National Youth Choir of ScotlandNYCOS – This page is about the organisation which has changed its name from 'National Youth Choir of Scotland' to 'NYCOS'. The original choir is still known as 'National Youth Choir of Scotland'. NYCoScotland (talk) 13:31, 4 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. Pure marketing. The full name should stand for our article. Far more recognisable, commonly used and intuitive. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:45, 5 September 2018 (UTC)--Relisting.Ammarpad (talk) 08:21, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your thoughts Necrothesp. I am curious about how this can be regarded as marketing rather than just reflecting reality? The article refers to the organisation which is no longer called 'National Youth Choir of Scotland'. I would disagree with the assertion that 'National Youth Choir of Scotland' is far more recognisable and commonly used. 'NYCoS' (with a small o) was adopted as a pronounceable acronym by the first choir members in 1996, all 19 other choirs formed by the organisation since 1997 have been prefixed with 'NYCoS'. The organisation started using the domain name nycos.co.uk in 1999. The media consistently refer to the organisation/choir as 'NYCoS', in this Herald article [1] from 1998 'NYCoS' is used twice while 'National Youth Choir of Scotland' is not used at all. In short, there is a long history of NYCoS being commonly used and it is widely recognised. I would agree that 'National Youth Choir of Scotland' is more intuitive/intelligible to the uninitiated, however as that choir is still called 'National Youth Choir of Scotland' I would presume it would redirect to 'NYCOS' until such times as it warrants an article of its own.

Full disclosure, I work for the charity and much of the reasoning behind formally adopting the name 'NYCOS' was to disambiguate between the choir and the organisation. Peter at NYCOS (talk) 16:26, 5 September 2018 (UTC)Peter at NYCOSReply
