Malayan Scouts

edit

The original wording read, forerunner of the modern SAS. The SAS as a regiment was indeed formed long before the Malayan Scouts, but had been allowed to dwindle into a cadre in the Territorial Army. (The aim was presumably to form a nucleus for Auxiliaries i.e. stay-behind troops, should they ever need to be recreated.)

The Malayan Scouts were part of the Regular Army. The original concept (shared by Calvert) seems to have been to form ad hoc Special Forces units in theatres as required, the Malayan Scouts being the first. Later, this changed so that the Malayan Scouts were renamed 22 SAS and became a permanent Special Forces unit.

Article reassessed and graded as start class. --dashiellx (talk) 18:37, 20 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

2020 - Definitely still start class. Needs a bit more of a clean up and more inline citations, and maybe an image or two. Enderwigginau (talk) 00:32, 3 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Possible gaps

edit

In his ODNB article on Calvert, his biographer David Rooney indicates that some of the German witnesses at Calvert's court martial for indecency later testified to being pressured by British military police to finger Calvert as homosexual. Possibly this should be mentioned?

Rooney also describes Calvert as receiving the French Croix de Guerre (not mentioned in our article) as well as the Belgian equivalent. I am not expert on this material, but it could be a gap that should be filled? Nandt1 (talk) 14:06, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
