Michael Jackson is the seventh child not the eight without including his brother Brandon. The order of the Jacksons is Rebbie,Jackie,Tito,Jermaine,La Toya, Marlon and then Michael is the seventh and with Janet and Randy being the youngest. He is the seventh without Brandon. Moonwalkerlover (talk) 00:05, 10 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not done as mentioned in previous threads, Brandon dying young doesn't mean he can or should be excluded; Michael is in fact the eighth overall child. Snuggums (talk / edits) 02:46, 10 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

False accusations about Michael Jackson edit

After reading this article, I believe you could add this statement in the section about his voice or rumors.

There were rumors about Michael Jackson that he took hormones to maintain his high voice, but in an interview with a press member he was asked to truthfully answer that rumor and he claimed he had never taken any hormones to enhance his voice in any way.

Earnigs of 2016 edit

Michael Jackson earned $825 Million in 2016 — the largest single year payday ever by any Entertainer in history [1] Akhiljaxxn (talk) 18:12, 12 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Updated intro end line with new figure. Should a low-balled net worth from 2007 really be in the info box at the article's beginning? Net takings from 2016's estimate gross earnings alone outstrip that figure.Mc8755 (talk) 21:59, 12 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

References

The 825 Million figure is not the networth of michael jackson .its only the earnings of this year .in 2015 forbes reported that his earning after death range between 1.1B to 1.2B and his estate paid off his 450Million debt from that and reported his networth as 600M.so the networth of mj today will be the sum total of 825m+600M Akhiljaxxn (talk) 02:45, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not so sure what his net worth would be today, but yearly earnings definitely aren't the same thing as net worth. I've restored the previous figure for that and clarified that the $825 million figure is from yearly earnings. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:03, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree these are estimates gross takings pre-tax and pre-expenses, but the idea the net worth would be a very small fraction of gross earnings post-2009 is a little silly. I think it makes more sense to remove a low-ball estimate rather than update it to an unambiguous figure as of now when annual earnings are so huge it's likely the net worth is exploding per annum. Currently, Forbes rates Jackson's posthumous takings north of $2 billion in gross takings. That puts net cash at least three times the 2007 figure being used. Mc8755 (talk) 21:44, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
So basically, Mc8755 you're talking about our guess... So I don't agree put the current figure extracted from Forbes or not in the infobox or lead. Maybe in the respective sections. Chrishonduras (talk) 22:19, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

In addition to the album, Jackson released "Thriller", a 14-minute music video directed by John Landis, in 1983.[81] It "defined music videos and broke racial barriers" on the Music Television Channel (MTV), a fledgling entertainment television channel at the time.[46] In December 2009, the Library of Congress selected the "Thriller" music video for inclusion in the National Film Registry. It was one of 25 films named that year as "works of enduring importance to American culture" that would be "preserved for all time."[82][83] As of 2009, the zombie-themed "Thriller" is the only music video to have been inducted into the registry.[81][83][84] Also, Jackson got in some trouble with the Jehovah's Witness because of the video. Because of this, Jackson added a disclaimer at the beginning of the video saying, Due to my strong personal convictions, I wish to stress that this film in no way endorses a belief in the occult. Michael Jackson. Before adding the disclaimer, Jackson was fully prepared to scrap the whole song, because he didn't want the Jehovah's Witness to be mad at him. honorific-prefix edit

Hi...is it possible to use honorific-prefix for this page (honorific-prefix = King Of Pop) like we use honorific prefix of Pandit for Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma for Mahatma Gandhi or use honorific-prefix = King Sani like MBE of Paul McCartney ??? Akhiljaxxn (talk) 18:08, 4 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

No because that's not really an official title; it's more like a term of endearment from critics and fans. Snuggums (talk / edits) 18:30, 4 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

The title Pandit and Mahatma are also used by their followers and critics alike.Gandhi called mahatma for the first time by Rabindranath Tagore and the Title King sani is really a official tittle by ivory coast.[1][2][3] Akhiljaxxn (talk) 18:55, 7 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

"King of Pop" still isn't an official title in the royal or honorary sense, so it doesn't belong in infobox as this isn't supposed to be a fansite. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:28, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Discuss philanthropy in lead edit

If Jackson is described as a philanthropist in the lead, then his philanthropic activity should be prominent enough to merit discussion in the lead. The lead sentence shouldn't tease people to force them to search for topics in the body of the article. Everything important should be there in the lead. In short, could someone please add a paragraph about his philanthropic activity to the lead? LK (talk) 03:52, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Look closer. The link I gave contains the quote "Some of the documents appear to be copies of reports that were authored by Sheriff's Office personnel as well as evidentiary photographs taken by Sheriff's Office personnel interspersed with content that appears to be obtained off the internet or through unknown sources" and goes on to say "The Sheriff's Office did not release any of the documents and/or photographs to the media. The Sheriff's Office released all of its reports and the photographs as part of the required discovery process to the prosecution and the defense." Net Worth edit

Seems a bit redundant to have a random 2007 net worth for Jackson in his bio. Since figures are too difficult to track accurately (Forbes have total gross career earnings for Jackson over $3 billion) and in 2007 Jackson owned (among other assets) Neverland Ranch, a $100M property and half of multi-billion dollar music catalog, this "net" worth seems wholly inaccurate even with the article's source. Currently, the Estate of Michael Jackson are claiming a much lower worth for tax purposes, also, while the IRS asset more than $1.1 billion in assets. Consider removing this figure. Mc8755 (talk) 16:05, 30 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

The reason this was used is because it was the most recent verified figure (at least before his death). Removing from infobox is understandable due to the disputes over how much it would be in more modern times (including the day he died), but I'd say the sections on his finance should stay due to the debt issues he had. Some information sources I JUST listed above!! YouTube is a very good source for information and also disinformation, but it is YOUR job to find what is relevant. (Kind of hard head to read what is given before answering!?) (37.33.50.32 (talk) 21:11, 16 February 2017 (UTC))Reply
Furthermore, Wikipedia isn't supposed to be a rumor or speculation site.
That is not just some rumor anymore! There are simply TOO MANY sources and documents that state that he is alive and lot of proofs that the death and funeral was fake! .. The another possibility IS that for example one of his many body doubles is playing M.J. --- but what so ever that would be part of the text in that part of the story! If you DON'T want to have it under M.J. so start a new page about "M.J. Alive Conspiracy Theories" or something similar so that you don't need to edit your "official truth". The many documents that support the "fake death" should be examined and the results published ... either way ... since wikipedia is known source for REAL information. Your attitude protecting M.J's very possible fake death (or that somebody is faking M.J. alive) IS AGAINST Wikipedia rules! All aspects should be examined and information published! You are now protecting fake information and that IS AGAINST Wikipedia rules!!! You find several information sources about the subject in YouTube for example and different news also. Q8: Isn't Jackson the seventh child of the Jackson family, not the eighth? (No.)
A8: No. Marlon had a twin, Brandon, who died shortly after birth. This makes Michael the eighth child.

Death Section/ First Sentence edit

The first couple of sentences in the death section read:

"On June 25, 2009, Jackson fell unconscious while lying in bed at his rented mansion at 100 North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills district of Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating him by Conrad Murray, his personal physician, were unsuccessful."

I'm a little confused by the statement. He was essentially already unconscious. I think the first sentence should read:

"On June 25, 2009, Jackson stopped breathing while attempting to sleep under the care of his personal physician, Conrad Murray. Murray reportedly had given Jackson an array of medications in an attempt to help him sleep at his rented mansion in the Holmby Hills district of Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating Jackson were unsuccessful."

If no one has an opinion or objection to this, I'm changing it. Zdawg1029 (talk) 01:20, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I thought the sequence of events was widely known to the world, or at least what was reported by Murray himself. But there is a link below with a timeline of the events. He was trying to help Jackson sleep, so he gave him a bunch of different meds throughout the night. He finally gave him propofol which knocked him out and made him stop breathing. Murray found him not breathing and attempted to do CPR and was unsuccessful. Zdawg1029 (talk) 04:00, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

"yearly earnings of $825 million" edit

The phrase "with yearly earnings of $825 million in 2016" tends to suggest that this sort of amount is earned each year, or expected to continue each year, whereas later in the article it says that this especially large sum was mostly due to a one-off item. From what I can tell, 65M is the most recent known worldwide total given that wasn't inflated. You can see Talk:Thriller (Michael Jackson album)/Archive 6#Thriller sales for more details. Michael Jackson & Freddie Mercury Duets edit

The article states that 3 duets by QUEEN's Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson were completed and released. Not true. Only 1 duet has been published, to date. Skin bleaching edit

As seen here (regarding the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article) and here (regarding the Michael Jackson article), I reverted Akhiljaxxn on the skin bleaching aspect since it is a significant topic with regard to Michael Jackson's appearance. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 09:17, 18 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

He actually had a skin deises which made him very self-conscious. So he did bleach the rest of himself so he wouldn't look weird and he was very sensitive to sunlight that is why he had a hat on or an umbrella. Goldenmagnolia6214 (talk) 14:07, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Flyer22 Reborn I didnt removed his changing appearence or  skin bleaching rumours.what i removed is which Taraborrelli noted may have been a consequence of skin bleaching.how the randy taraborellis view become relevent here since he is not dermatologiest?.i've asked this to two doctors and both have same opinion.they told me "NO. No amount of bleach can turn u a vitiligo kind of white. we've studied mj's case in our studies, he used to be our case study".There is no study to proves that.if u google bleaching makes people vitiligo it shows the the wikipedia page of mj and his personal appearence.since wikipedia is a encyclopedida how we can agree on which Taraborrelli noted may have been a consequence of skin bleaching this sentence?

Akhiljaxxn (talk) 17:07, 21 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Akhiljaxxn, the fact that Jackson had vitiligo does not negate the possibility that he was likely skin-bleaching. It's not just J. Randy Taraborrelli stating this, just like it's not just J. Randy Taraborrelli stating that Jackson had numerous plastic surgery procedures done. You can view the plastic surgery aspect as rumors as well, but it doesn't negate that a number of plastic surgery experts are clear that Jackson had numerous plastic surgery procedures. In the case of vitiligo, experts note that vitiligo shows itself in blotches, while Jackson's entire body was really light; it does not appear that this was simply makeup. The Michael Jackson article, and the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article, do not state state that he did not have vitiligo. In fact, the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article is clear that he had it and that his condition was confirmed via the autopsy. So not only is this edit you made to that article (which I revered) not needed, it deletes a significant aspect regarding the media attention given to Jackson's appearance. Skin bleaching is covered in this article and in that article because it is a significant aspect regarding the media attention given to Jackson's appearance. And since the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article is specifically about Jackson's appearance, and the skin bleaching aspect is covered lower in the article, it belongs in the lead of that article. This is per WP:Lead. We are not going to delete/censor it simply because you and others don't like it. The same goes for the child sexual abuse claims regarding Jackson; you know, when it comes to editors who dislike this aspect being mentioned and/or try to censor it in some way.
I can't take your word on what you state two doctors have stated. I can go by what doctors in WP:Reliable sources, such as this one, state. It's included in the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article and it reports: When studying a photograph of Jackson taken at the time, [The reaction by Pamela Lipkin (a prominent plastic surgeon)] was to call it "the most unusual case of vitiligo I've ever seen." Although she said it was possible that Jackson started bleaching his skin because of the disease — in order to blend his natural darker tone with the lighter blotches that were appearing — she also said that a lighter skin seemed consistent with other changes that she believes Jackson made to his features. "When you look at the other features, the skin bleaching sort of goes along with what I think was his quest for beauty," she said. "So I have to wonder what came first? Vitiligo or lighter skin?"
And that is just one doctor. If there are WP:Reliable sources from dermatologists on this matter, then let's review those. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 01:00, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

With this edit (followup edits here and here), I added two additional sources to the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article to support the fact that it was widely suggested that Jackson was skin bleaching. Again, us mentioning that skin bleaching was discussed does not mean that it is a fact that he was skin bleaching. We are not reporting the skin bleaching aspect as something he was definitely doing. Also, in the Vitiligo article, there is a currently a De-pigmenting section, which makes it clear that certain treatments for vitiligo can lighten the skin. Judging by this article and the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article, Jackson was using some or all of those treatments, which also explain his lighter skin tone not solely being due to vitiligo and makeup. With this edit, I trimmed a bit of the Taraborrelli commentary in the Michael Jackson article; this is because it's covered in the main article about Jackson's appearance and the claim that skin bleaching caused the vitiligo is dubious. I object to this aforementioned edit you made because, in addition to removing the skin bleaching aspect, it unnecessarily mentions Taraborrelli in the lead and starts off making it sound like it's only according to Taraborrelli that Jackson had vitiligo...before stating that his autopsy confirmed it. We don't need to mention that in the lead. All we need to state is that Jackson had vitiligo and that his lighter skin was also speculated to be partly due to skin bleaching. Plus, the end of the lead of that article mentions his death. The flow is better if his death is regulated to the end of that lead, not mentioned in two different parts of the lead. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 02:45, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Update: With this edit (followup edits here and here), I added some Jackson commentary on the skin bleaching claim for neutrality. As seen with this edit, I also added a bit to the lead of the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article. The rest is lower in that article. The lead is only meant to summarize, not go into further detail.

Currently, the lead sentence states: "Michael Joseph Jackson[1][2] (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, actor, and philanthropist.[3][4][5]" This sentence is overwrought. I would like to discuss how to craft a better lead sentence per the MOS guidelines MOS:LEADSENTENCE and MOS:BLPLEAD.

This is how he was described in the NYT article on his death:

For his legions of fans, he was the Peter Pan of pop music: the little boy who refused to grow up. But on the verge of another attempted comeback, he is suddenly gone, this time for good. Michael Jackson, whose quintessentially American tale of celebrity and excess took him from musical boy wonder to global pop superstar to sad figure haunted by lawsuits, paparazzi and failed plastic surgery, was pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon at U.C.L.A. Medical Center after arriving in a coma, a city official said. Mr. Jackson was 50, having spent 40 of those years in the public eye he loved. The singer was rushed to the hospital, a six-minute drive from the rented Holmby Hills home in which he was living, shortly after noon by paramedics for the Los Angeles Fire Department. A hospital spokesman would not confirm reports of cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at 2:26 pm. As with Elvis Presley or the Beatles, it is impossible to calculate the full effect Mr. Jackson had on the world of music. At the height of his career, he was indisputably the biggest star in the world; he has sold more than 750 million albums.

How he is referred to in obituaries from other reliable sources:

The legendary singer passes away aged 50
Michael Jackson, the self-styled King of Pop, who has died suddenly aged 50 after being taken to hospital in Los Angeles, was music royalty – one of its biggest stars and holder, for Thriller, of the record for the best-selling album in history.
Michael Jackson, defined in equal parts as the world's greatest entertainer and perhaps its most enigmatic figure, was about to attempt one of the greatest comebacks of all time.
Michael Jackson, the singer, songwriter and dancer who earned the title “King of Pop” in a career that reached unprecedented peaks of sales and attention, died Thursday, a Los Angeles city official said.
Long May He Reign: Michael Jackson, the ‘King of Pop’

I propose the following lead paragraph: "Michael Joseph Jackson[1][2] (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Known as the "King of Pop", he was likely the most popular entertainer in the world at the time of his death. His contributions to music, dance, and fashion along with his publicized personal life made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades."

Suggestions?

LK (talk) 03:29, 5 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

I think that's an improvement. You might even be able to get away with just describing him as an "entertainer", but I don't know if that's too far. Popcornduff (talk) 03:44, 5 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
"Entertainer" is too vague; it would be much better to use the more specific term "singer". Dancer certainly could go in as well, possibly record producer given his MJJ Music label and producing/co-producing various tracks he recorded under Epic Records. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:34, 5 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
"he was likely the most popular entertainer in the world at the time of his death." This doesn't belong here. Just state "Known as the "King of Pop", his contributions to music, dance, and fashion, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades." ~ Dissident93 (talk) 05:16, 5 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Why not? Most of the obituaries state something along those lines when describing him. It is an important aspect of who he was. LK (talk) 07:10, 5 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
"Likely" is just bad writing. Either make it a fact, collected from various reliable sources, or omit it. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:12, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

I propose the following lead paragraph Michael Joseph Jackson[1][2] (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, actor, philanthropist. and considered as one of the most successfull and influential entertainers of all time[3][4][5].Known as The King of Pop,[6][7][8][9] his contributions to music, dance, and fashion[10][11][12] along with his publicized personal life made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. RfC: Lead sentence edit

WP:BLPLEAD states "The lead sentence should describe the person as he or she is commonly described in reliable sources." Referring to how Michael Jackson was described by the reliable sources (as quoted above), what should the lead sentence (or lead paragraph) state? Note also that WP:LEADSENTENCE states: "Try to not overload the first sentence by describing everything notable about the subject. Instead use the first sentence to introduce the topic, and then spread the relevant information out over the entire lead." LK (talk) 04:07, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • I think this RFC was unnecessary. The discussion above didn't seem to garner much opposition, and just trailed off. I've boldly made the change you suggested - let's see if anyone opposes it now. Popcornduff (talk) 06:29, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree that an RFC is unnecessary. The only removal I object to is producer per my above comments. Snuggums (talk / edits) 13:13, 18 July 2017 (UTC) After further thought and reading Bluesatellite's rationale, I'm fine with the change. Snuggums (talk / edits) 03:34, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Michael, Madonna and Mariah are all producer, but neither is commonly known as producer. Pharell Williams is an example of a singer who is also commonly known as a producer. I think a better description of Michael is a singer, songwriter, and dancer (Songwriters Hall of Fame and Dance Hall of Fame would agree with me). Keep all the less notable occupations on the infobox and categories. Bluesatellite (talk) 22:38, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • I support the lead and infobox as it currently stands [1] - leaving philanthropist and producer out since that is not what he is well known for. Meatsgains (talk) 14:42, 25 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Lead image edit

With this edit, Ryan1783 changed File:Michael Jackson in 1988.jpg to File:Michael Jackson (1988).jpg. I feel that the previous image, showing Jackson performing, is the better lead image; it's not as focused on his face, but it captures the overall essence of the topic. The latter, cheesing image of Jackson just seems lackluster as a lead image, in my opinion. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 05:03, 18 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Statement edit

Hello. I don't wanna make a war edit. So, I will try to find the solution here :).

I changed something in the first paragraph, but was reverted by Pawnkingthree.
I don't found anything (at least if I missed) in Rolling Stone's reference and the other one, doesn't have a link. Would be better than a quote btw.
But the most important thing, is.. the statement: "the best-selling music artist at the time of his death". Probably we could have reliable references about it. And is regarding to the "living best-selling artist". But is complete unnecesary.. if not, we can add the best-selling artist (alive) or something like that. Are hyperbolic examples. Simple is better. "One of the most/best selling in music history/all-time..."

Regards, Chrishonduras (Diskussion) 03:04, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Chrishonduras: There's nothing "hyperbolic" about simply reporting what reliable sources say. Rolling Stone, which is a reliable source, says "in 2009 Jackson was the biggest-selling artist in the world." I don't see what is inappropriate about mentioning that in the lede.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:21, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
That's what I'm trying to avoid. It's ambiguous too. "the biggest-selling artist in the world" (in all 2009). Also, is not neccesary mention who is currently the best-selling artist alive. All those paraphrase are unnecesary. Maybe in Legacy section. But is better simple in lead. I hope that other users can give opinions. Regards, Chrishonduras (Diskussion) 21:32, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello, the second source (Lewis Jones) doesn't support the statement of being best-selling in 2009. However, it brings up a point mentioned later but probably should be higher up in the lead, which is that Thriller is the best-selling album of all time. Source is both Lewis James and Guinness World Book of Records. (First time for me to talk on wikipedia so please excuse any guidelines i might've missed unintentionally). Background/Featured Vocal Credits for Michael Jackson edit

The following edit for the "1975–1981: Move to Epic and Off the Wall" section may be useful:

During this period, Michael Jackson also sang background or feature vocals on songs for artists including Kenny Loggins, Carole Bayer Sager, Minnie Riperton, Dave Mason, and Kenny Rogers.

Traditional citations may not be applicable for this information, but proof of accuracy exists in credits for the following songs:

"Who's Right, Who's Wrong" - Kenny Loggins (1979), "Just Friends" - Carole Bayer Sager (1981), "I'm In Love Again" - Minnie Riperton (1980), "Save Me" - Dave Mason (1980), "Goin' Back To Alabama" - Kenny Rogers (1981).

First child accuser edit

In the opening summary, it is said that Jackson’s first child accuser committed suicide many years later. This should be clarified as it was the boy’s father, Evan Chandler who committed suicide and was the actual accuser, not the boy, Jordan Chandler. The article implies it was the child who did and feigns an aura of guilt over the situation. Intersting (talk) 03:24, 9 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Controversies section edit

One would expect there'd be a controversies section. HardeeHar (talk) 09:02, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Controversy sections are generally a bad idea (more at WP:CRITS), they tend to act like shit-magnets. The general WP-philosophy is that if a "controversy" should be mentioned, it should not be singled out to a separate section, it should be in the right place in the article per chronology or topic or whatever. No controversy-section can very well be a sign that an article like this has some quality.
If there's stuff you think belongs that is not in for example Michael_Jackson#2002–2005:_Second_child_sexual_abuse_allegations_and_acquittal and it's subarticles, Health and appearance of Michael Jackson, Bubbles or whatever, get the sources and WP:BOLDly add them, or, if you think those edits would be... controversial... perhaps discuss them first. Consider though that one of the many subarticles may be a better place. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:40, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

The instruments field is for the main instruments the musician is known for only. Popcornduff (talk) 12:49, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Philanthropist edit

This should be added in the lead sentance. Since he has won countless awards and has also has his name on the Guinness Book World Records for this very thing along with many other contributions he has done for humanity and so on. - Awardmaniac (talk) 12:53, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

All that is covered in the lead. But Michael Jackson isn't primarily known for being a philanthropist, and we don't want to make the first sentence bloated, so this information isn't appropriate for the lead sentence. Popcornduff (talk) 12:58, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why is this one of the very few pages that can't be edited? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keditz (talkcontribs) 16:39, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

A Mischaracterization edit

The summary statement at the end of the opening paragraph, "made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades" ((what happened to the italics in wiki edits?)) is a bit of an overreached statement. While the Jackson 5 were known, along with him as the leader, in his youth, possibly even in some places globally, Michael Jackson was not known globally in Asia or even Africa (or probably Latin America) until the 1980s when his airplay (and the technology of U.S. airplay and the music industry) takes on a new dimension. This is sheer exaggeration and a rewriting of reality. It is pure mischaracterization. Stevenmitchell (talk) 10:48, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

A well-used nickname given to Jackson by his brothers was 'Hae Chan', meaning 'dance genius' in Latin. 2A02:C7F:8406:A00:DD5:2A0A:D9F:AC3E (talk) 16:18, 20 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
