Michael Bisping vs Matt Hamill edit

Maybe it should be mentioned that Michael Bisping is planning on dropping a weight class to avoid a rematch? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Flapdoodle111 (talkcontribs) 07:52, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

?  east.718 at 08:42, September 12, 2007

he didnt drop a weight class to avoid hamill. he wanted to fight hamill but hamill got injured. he then decided to drop down to middlweight after his loss to evans. At this point hamill was still injured making a rematch impossible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.29.53.115 (talk) 13:52, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

It says in the article that two of the judges were American and one was British. It says that the one British judge sided with Hamill and that the two American judges sided with Bisping. It says that fans felt that the judging must have been bias but it claims that because the two judges who sided with Bisping were American that it couldn't have been. I think the fact that the two American judges sided Bisping only goes to reinforce the fact that something was fishy with the judging. The two american judges would have been murdered by the British fans. It would have been a riot. They sided with Bisping out of fear for their safety. If the crowd had heard that the two Americans sided with Hamill there would have been a riot and they would have been attacked physically. If you have no idea what I'm taking about I guess you have never seen how it goes after football game when the team the crowd is cheering for looses. They were just trying to keep the drunken brits from rioting. They didn't decide based on the fight. They decided based on their fear of being hurt. The article seems to claim that because the American judges sided with Bisping that it was a legit decision. EVERYONE who saw that fight KNOWS Hamill won that fight. Bisping didn't do a god damn thing to win that fight. You could attempt say he won round 3 because Hamill's technique started to get a little sloppy and Bisping's didn't but that hardly make him the winner. Hamill won the first two rounds and had a million take downs. EVERYONE KNOWS that decision was straight up BS. Even Bisping fans after the event went up to Hamill to congratulate him on winning the fight. That is a fact, you can look it up yourself. Hamill said it himself. He basically said, "Even fans of Bisping came up to me, congratulated me on the win, and admitted the decision was BS." I didn't make this up, he did say that [not exact quote] the day after in an interview. Why isn't this pertinent information like that presented in the article? I think it would be kind of important to mention don't you? Something is horribly horribly wrong here.

^^ This assumption about the potential violence in the arena is incorrect. I was in the crowd and it was better natured than many US cards, where 'fans' routinely boo the fighters. This does not happen in the UK. The American judges were not in fear and there is no basis for this personal opinion. I personally thought Hammill won. If he had been declared the winner, the crowd would have cheered as well. Hammill is well liked in the UK. Do not compare football fans to MMA fans, many (like myself), are ardent fans of both sports and we do not 'riot'. Please try to stay away from bias and personal opinion when making discussions on Wikipedia.

I think it's also important to mention that the nationality of the judges is not announced along with their scores if their names are even announced at all. Whoever is claiming the crowd would have become violent knows neither the sport nor the British people. And I'm not even British.

^^^^ This assumption about people not being pissed about their home town hero loosing a fight due to two American Judges is hysterical. Please keep BS comments like those off Wikipedia. It's supposed to be for reality. Those comments couldn't be more spot on.

His brother edit

The article that mentions his girlfriend and children also mention his older brother Konrad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.130.182.70 (talk) 14:01, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hometown edit

Article's locked now but once it gets unlocked, there's a mistake at the bottom of his bio. UFC 75 took place in London, England, but that is not his hometown. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.117.178.23 (talk) 15:47, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

 Y Done  east.718 at 21:48, September 12, 2007

Bisping is openly gay and has said he got into MMA because one of the guys at his gym was taking classes and wanted to get close.

Why is that statement even here? What does that have to do with where his hometown is? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fumblemuck (talkcontribs) 07:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Article says born in Cyprus, profile says born in Liverpool edit

One has to be wrong —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.86.143.91 (talk) 10:13, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

it says fighting out of liverpool not born in liverpool—Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)
While Imdb and TINQ state Liverpool as his place of birth, this is most likely an error confusing his hometown with a place of birth. However, what is also an error is the combination of "British Military Base" and "Nicosia" as a place of birth. There is no British military base in Nicosia, as those posted there live in the UNPA and are supported by the British Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, both of which have hospitals to serve dependents of service personnel. It would be helpful to find a better source for where in Cyprus his father was posted to, or which hospital he was born in. 'Cheers, Loopy30 (talk) 14:46, 18 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Cage Rage / Cage Warriors edit

article - "Bisping's Cage Rage title would eventually be vacated when in 2005 he signed to fight in England's Cage Warriors Fighting Championship promotion"

That's not quite correct as Bisping had already fought three times in Cagewarriors , whilst also being Cage Rage champion, some months before this eventual stripping. Bisping is associated with Wolfslair Gym as stated elsewhere in the article, which is connected with Cagewarriors. I've sorted the date order of this stuff as there is overlap and also put references from the two fight promotions. --Revolt 13:22, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Right hook/overhand right edit

How can you get hit with a right hook when Henderson is not a southpaw? It was an overhand right. 67.100.189.90 (talk) 14:58, 13 July 2009 (UTC)raffraffboobooboxReply

What? A right hook and an overhand right is not the same punch. --aktsu (t / c) 22:37, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

A fighter can hook with either hand (as with uppercuts), whether they're righty or lefty. It's a blanket term for a horizontal looping punch. An overhand is a looping punch but is not horizontal, it's vertical (or diagonal, like a baseball pitch) and is thrown over the top (hence "overhand"). What Henderson threw was horizontal and therefore a hook, not an overhand.

"Hook punches can be thrown by either the lead hand or the rear hand" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hook_(boxing) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.71.195.107 (talk) 07:21, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Relevancy edit

How is the following statement relevant to the article? "In a December 2008 interview, Cruiserweight boxer Enzo Maccarinelli said he would be confident of knocking out Bisping if he were to switch from boxing to MMA." Should articles include every would be fighter who says they could knock out another fighter? I think it's even less relevant considering they don't even compete in the same sport. I could maybe understand if they were the top two competitors of their respective sports, but they aren't. I could maybe see it being in Maccarinelli's article, if this were perhaps seen as a motivation for him to move to MMA, but until that happened, I would still fail to see how the statement has any significance. Bisping-Silva UFC 105 edit

I heard a rumour about Bisping V Wanderlei at UFC 105...Is this true? = Joe ,Heres where I got it from by the way : [3]

MMABay is know for reporting rumours as fact. It is not confirmed. --aktsu (t / c) 22:01, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

It says this on the page

'The UFC has officially announced that Bisping will lose to former PRIDE Middleweight Champion Wanderlei Silva on February 21, 2010 at UFC 110.[35]'

it should face not lose, Bisping has some haters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.35.108 (talk) 12:31, 13 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

"Fraud" edit

In an article on Slate.com about Fedor's switch to Strikeforce, Bisping was described as a "fraud". Is there some controversy that isn't mentioned here, or was that likely referring to the Hamill match and subsequent drop in divisions?KhProd1 (talk) 09:35, 1 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

biased edit

The last bit about bisping vs wand says things that are incorrect probably because somebody wants to make it seem like he did better than he did against silva. it was not "an even fight" or a "close decision" either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.44.93.39 (talk) 21:39, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rivera Fight edit

I think it is important to add that Bisping threw a blatantly illegal knee, purposely grabbed the cage (not instinctively) and spat at Rivera's cornermen. These are facts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.57.177.161 (talk) 00:33, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I suspect Paralympiakos is the one removing mention of the fact that he grabbed the fence all the time. He's blatantly biased in favour of British fighters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.57.177.161 (talk) 19:48, 1 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Leben Fight edit

It says Leben was caught "juicing" following the fight. In fact, he was using opiates. "Juice" in common parlance refers to anabolic steroids, not painkillers. These are vastly different types of medication. Perhaps somebody can remedy this, article is protected after all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.108.204.50 (talk) 16:59, 3 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fixed.--Phospheros (talk) 18:20, 3 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
After checking Leben did in fact test positive for steroids (Stanozolol) during the Bisping fight, he tested positive for opiates in the Muñoz fight.--Phospheros (talk) 18:28, 3 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I wasn't trying to disinform when I said painkillers, I got that from Leben's page, but that's also been set to Stanozolol now. Well done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.108.204.50 (talk) 13:31, 5 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

His height edit

look at the weigh ins, his height is listed at 6'2 but in UFC on fox 2, he is shorter than chael sonnen by about an inch, chael is 6'1. this would make him 6'0 tall. but bisping is no taller than 6'1. against wanderlei silva who is 5'11 bisping looked no more than 2 inches taller thus he is only about 6'1 tops. Against henderson also 5'11, henderson looks no more than 2 inches taller than him. Denis kang is also 5'11 and bisping looks 6'0 to 6'1, there is no way bisping is 6'2. 6'1 would be a closer estimate to his true height. Just look at the weigh in and you will see.

Michael Galen! edit

The paperwork from the Illinois Athletic Commission has Bisping's name as Michael Galen, not Michael Gavin.

Eye loss edit

Hello, it is now without doubt that Bisping has lost his right eye due to the kick by Belfort. Therefore, I think someone competent enough should edit the article for this important change. It also means that Bisping doesn't have strabismus; it is only his artifical eye that cannot move as much as the left (good) eye. Bisping had to conceal his eye loss to continue to fight. Please cross-check information if organisations require both eyes' sight to compete.-— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.200.113.245 (talk) 16:01, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
