I recently saw a YouTube video asserting that Ronet had been cast for the Sherif Ali role ultimately played by Omar Sharif. According to that source (Void Volken) David Lean was never happy with the Ronet casting and was delighted when Ronet refused to wear brown contact lenses, precipitating his replacement.
