Proposed merge with Maouri people edit

No. These are two different groups in different parts of West Africa. Since "ou" in French orthography is generally the equivalent of "u" in English, it is easy to see the reason for confusion. Merge tag should be removed, please.--A12n (talk) 03:53, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, the two terms have different meaning: the "Maouri" are a modern group, while the "Mauri" is a generic term used by ancient writers for the Berbers of the Maghreb. I am removing the merge tag.Constantine 13:05, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

*Maurisi edit

great, there are now 7,000 sites on the internet repeating the misprint or typo "Maurisi" attributing it to a fictional "book 18" of Strabo. (I fixed it). --dab (𒁳) 12:51, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

– The term "Mauri people" is awkward, since Mauri is already a (Latin) plural. This page gets three times as many hits as the disambiguation page. Srnec (talk) 00:03, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support. Was concerned that there were a lot of entries on the disambiguation page, but given the amount of page traffic and the availability of "Mauri (disambiguation)", I don't think it'll be a problem. The hatnote will need to be changed to point at the disambiguation page, as well as at Maori and Maouri. P Aculeius (talk) 12:28, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Of the other full title matches, only AB Mauri has an appreciable numbers of page views: 13/day compared with 112/day for Mauri people. IMO the latter is WP:PTOPIC.
Nom's point that the current title is grammatically equivalent to "Americans people" is also telling. Narky Blert (talk) 15:13, 6 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
