actual distribution of usage, and charges? edit

The customer charge data is hypothetical, based on "industry standard" usage. But what is the actual distribution of usage, and charges? And how has this been changing over the years, per person and per household, in various communities? -69.87.204.24 (talk) 01:46, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

See, for general information this resource:
MWRA Community Advisory board
The following publication is issued annually. A review and compilation of the annual reports would answer your question. The Fiscal Year 2007 report, apparently the 21st in the series:
  • Annual Water and Sewer Retail Rate Survey (PDF). Massachusetts Water Resources Authority Community Advisory Board. November 2007. pp. See especially: Apendix C (Prorated 2006 and 2007 water and sewer retail rates, based upon prior year water use), and Appendix D (Final MWRA fiscal year 2007 billable water and sewer charges). {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |coauthors= (help)

May 2010 pipe failure edit

I added a section on the May 1, 2010 rupture of the main pipeline supplying water to greater Boston from Quabbin Reservoir, and marked it as a current event. I also live in one of the towns affected by this event. Bill Holt (talk) 05:26, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for adding it. I suppose it could be written in a slightly more professional tone; for example, replacing "huge" with an actual number. --Ericdn (talk) 05:46, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I added numbers to the section that I originally added, based on what is in the current version of the references.Bill Holt (talk) 13:22, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Current template edit

According to the template guidelines,

  • "Note that every article on Wikipedia has a General disclaimer indicating that the article contents may not be accurate.
  • As an advisory to editors, the template may optionally be used in those extraordinary occasions that many editors (perhaps a hundred or more) edit an article on the same day, for example, in the case of natural disasters, the death of celebrities, or other breaking news.
  • It is not intended to be used to mark an article that merely has recent news articles about the topic; if it were, hundreds of thousands of articles would have this template, with no informational consequence.
  • Generally it is expected that this template and its closely related templates will appear on an article for perhaps a day or so, occasionally several days." Abductive (reasoning) 19:55, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for sharing that. Please explain why you think this template might be used inappropriately in this article. --Crunch (talk) 19:58, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Current tag on May 2010 pipe failure edit

I reverted the removal of the Current tag on the May 2010 pipe failure section. While the editing "may not be heavy," this is certainly a current event with events rapidly and content may change rapidly over the next few days. This definitely fits the criteria for use of Template:Current. --Crunch (talk) 19:57, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I strongly disagree. The only news will be a lifting of boil orders which will trickle in. People shouldn't be getting their news from Wikipedia anyway, especially in regard to public health issues, per WP:NOT#NEWS. Abductive (reasoning) 19:59, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • I think you're missing the bigger picture. This article is Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and the subsection in question is May 2010 pipe failure. The article is not Boston Boil Water Ban of 2010. A major pipe breach in the MWRA infrastructure affecting the ability to deliver water to 2 million people is significant news with regard to the MWRA, its history and its future. When the MWRA main tunnel to Quabbin is effectively put out of service, that's significant. There will be more changing news as the incident develops regarding repair of the pipe, use of alternate reservoirs and water delivery system, MWRA and state procedures to prevent further breaches, speed of existing construction projects as a result of this incident, the political fallout, and its impact on the public. Whether or not people want to use Wikipedia to get public health news is up to them. That's not the point. This article is about the MWRA and this breach is one of the biggest things to happen to the MWRA in its entire history. --Crunch (talk) 20:20, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • Just to give you a little more information on this because maybe that's what's missing, the MWRA (the subject of the entire article), was established to deliver clean drinking water to residents in the greater Boston area. The current pipe failure made that impossible. It's probably the most significant thing that every happened to the MWRA. That's why the head of the MWRA executive director called it "everyone's worst nightmare" and "catastrophic." It's a huge event, rapidly changing event for the MWRA. Maybe you did not realize this. --Crunch (talk) 20:41, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
      • It may be a large event, but is the news breaking at such a rate as to justify the tag? I say no. Abductive (reasoning) 21:45, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
