Contested deletion

edit

This page should not be speedy deleted because Marty Sammon is a nationally touring artist that has contributed to Grammy Award winning albums, toured international and works with other artists that are included on Wikipedia. Please do not delete --Milwphil (talk) 22:54, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

This page should not be speedy deleted because Marty is cited on "Living Proof" as the piano player http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_Proof_%28Buddy_Guy_album%29 --Milwphil (talk) 23:00, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

This page should not be speedy deleted because Marty Sammon is a recognized worldwide ambassador of an American music tradition. He is an integral link between the origins of an American past time/experience. His contributions are notable--Milwphil (talk) 00:54, 5 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The article is in AfD where a discussion will be held for 7 days. Reliable sources should be added, in order for the article to survive the AfD. I voted "Delete" and then retired my voting because the article is improving. Still more notes from reliable sources should be added so that it can become a clear "keep". Thank you for reconsidering deletion of this page. I have been attempting to add links to support the articles statements and references. Recent updates include links to the Library of Congress, Martin Scorsese's Blues Series- Godfathers and Sons, etc. Please do not remove this entry as Marty Sammon is an integral contributor of the efforts to maintain the history of Blues as an art form and American experience.--Milwphil (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:23, 5 July 2011 (UTC).Reply

I've updated some of the references and links. Please do not delete. --Milwphil (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:11, 5 July 2011 (UTC).Reply

  • There was a message from Ohconfucious indicating that this article was written by Phil Guy and did not have any reliable sources to support notability. I strongly disagree. I also question that Ohconfucious reviewed the available references in the article. [Guy] is deceased. Please see the link to the wikipedia page provided in the article and or by doing a search. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Milwphil (talkcontribs) 03:17, 6 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I think these comments should go in the AfD page instead of here. Lynch7 04:44, 6 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Milwphil, I peeked through some of the references that you entered yesterday and currently in this version I don't see how any of them even mentions Marty Sammon. Can you please tell me which reference supports the content of the article and where Marty Sammon is mentioned?Divide et Impera (talk) 12:11, 6 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Divide Et Impera, I'm still adding references. But references 1,2,9,10,11 (which is being updated and released later in 2011- German Public television), 13, 17, 18 and 19 list him by name as either a credit or interview.Milwphil (talk
None of those references supports the content of his biography: they only show that he was a musician in an ensemble. You have to show that he fullfills Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Criteria_for_musicians_and_ensembles to see a successful AfD. Divide et Impera (talk) 13:41, 6 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Divide Et Impera, thank you for challenging Sammons significant notability. Marty did appear in Martin Scorsese's 2 time Grammy Award Winning Blues Series which I cited. Notability includes "..performance in a television show or notable film". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Milwphil (talkcontribs) 15:31, 6 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sammon has also appeared and has been highlighted on news casts (cited) as a representative of Chicago Blues. He has performed at middles schools, high schools and universites in the same context which fits "Has become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Milwphil (talkcontribs) 15:35, 6 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Appearance on Scorsese's movie would qualify for WP:BAND#10, but if that's the only point satisfied (out of 12), it says it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article. However it seems to me that it also qualifies for WP:BAND #6 and #7, so I voted keep. Best of luck!Divide et Impera (talk) 15:21, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
