This article is about the TEAM of Martin and Lewis...not the TV FILM. The TV film should be mentioned here with a link to a new article on the film. This isn't hard to do, and it would be more appropriate than adding detailed plot/cast information here. If we left this, then we should, by default, add the plot and cast of EVERY Martin and Lewis film on the list here as well. Please create a new article. Donaldd23 (talk) 22:07, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

The Split-up

I've heard that the final straw that caused the split between Jerry and Dean was that Dean refused to portray a cop in "The Delicate Delinquent". There was an A&E T.V. special, hosted by Peter Graves, that featured Dean Martin's biography. It pointed out an incident which apparently angered Martin more than the Look cover. He was singing his hit song That's Amore on the Colgate Comedy Hour (Jan 10, 1954)when Jerry commandeered some of the camera crew and basically ruined Martin's performance by moving the camera in all types of dizzy angles. Lewis ended the sequence by repeatedly slapping Martin on the back of his head, demanding that he sing! Martin tried to put on a good face but he was clearly irritated. In the same program, Lewis looked back and clearly stated that Martin was "...the spine of what was Martin and Lewis though 'Jerry' got all the accolades."MARK VENTURE (talk) 21:11, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

I did some followup research, found the A&E "Biography" presentation titled "A&E Biography - Dean Martin - Everybody Loves Somebody." The presentation was not a special as MARK VENTURE suggested, but part of the A&E regular programming. Also saw the segment mentioned in Mark's comments. Page title

OK, as the Wiki notice says there may be a few low-level issues with the English of this page but overall I found it to be balanced, informative, well written, and good to read. But I wonder about the title, 'Martin and Lewis'. As the duo were mostly known by their full stage names, 'Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis', wouldn't this be a better page title? I agree with CPES regarding the low-level issues (grammar, tone). Overall the article is good. On the name of the article, they were originally known as "Martin and Lewis" - that was their logo. In similar practice with many of the teams that sprouted up in radio, stage and even publishing, last names were used. In this case, only much later were they known by their full names. Since this article is about the team I believe that the "Martin and Lewis" title is appropriate however, there is probably a good reason to add disambiguation for their full names. Hi RWyman some good thoughts. I grew up through both eras: 'Martin & Lewis' and 'Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis' so can see your reasoning. But as now the duo are more famous as 'Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis, and as it is their latest lable, I feel that the latter should be used. Many famous performers have had different names, and I suggest that the most well-known should be used, but if there is a draw between two names, the latest would be used. Some examples: The Beatles were originally known as the Silver Beatles, but no one would use that name now. Same for Simon & Garfunkle; Tom & Gerry would be inappropriate. On the other hand, Ricky Nelson later changed his name to Rick Nelson. But in that case Ricky Nelson still sticks and Rick, just does not gel. That is my view anyway. You're making comparisons to bands who achieve no success with their original names. Sure, The Silver Beatles might have been the name of the band at one time, but they didn't achieve the major success they had until they were named just 'The Beatles'. Same with Simon and Garfunkel. Martin and Lewis achieved success under the name "Martin and Lewis" and only added their first names later on when tensions between the 2 became enlarged. That does not mean that the name they are known by is the newer one. People know them by the last names, just like Abbott and Costello. Their first names are always listed in the opening credits of the films too, just like Martin and Lewis, but they have always been, and will always be, "Abbott and Costello." As such, Dean and Jerry will always be "Martin and Lewis". I vote to keep the name of this article untouched. Donaldd23 (talk) 19:40, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
