General rewrite, providing sources for all statements.

I've done a new version. If you add anything, please include the sources, either as footnotes or right in the article itself and somebody else will come along to do the actual footnoting for you. Let's keep this article pristine — that is, with sources for everything. We haven't heard the last of this man, and he has many more years ahead of him.
