Please help find out!

Does anybody have an information of exact place and region of France where Custine was born? Any post on that here will be higly appreciated.

Try to find the George Kennan book on Custine. I don't remember the region. Dinopup 13:58, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I believe that something is wrong with the following sentence: "Kennan describes Russia as a horrible domain of obsequious flattery of the Tsar and spying." It seems to be out of place. Presumably what is intended is something such as "In his book on de Custine, Kennan describes Russia as a horrible domain of obsequious flattery of the Tsar and of spying." Also you need a specific footnote citation to the referenced passage. Wsjacobs (talk) 03:21, 8 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for the lead, Dinopup! Now, I'll dig this out.

Date of death edit

There seems to be some dispute among the Wikipedias about the date of death. I put a {{cn}} next to the initial dates for verification. Can anyone get a citation for this date? -- Yekrats (talk) 11:22, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Russophobe" edit

I thought you were retired. Why did you undo my adding of the category "Russophobia" to the Marquis de Custine‎ article? He is a well known Russophobe. Just Google it. "The foreigner targeted there was most likely the notorious Russophobe the Marquis de Custine." [1]. "In his popular and bigoted early nineteenth-century travelogue, the French aristocrat Marquis de Custine said that in Russia "the veneer of European civilization was too thin to be credible.” His dyspeptic view of Russia has lived on ever since." [2]. So de Custine practically invented Russophobia. You apparently think that there is no such thing as Russophobia – I have no idea why – but your denial of its existence is not helpful to building an encyclopedia. – Herzen (talk) 04:44, 3 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I now have an idea of why you deny that Russophobia exists, after i noticed that you have a link to a rabidly Russophobic interview on your user page. – Herzen (talk) 05:28, 3 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
