Date of first bottling

The date of the first bottling must be on or before 1982. I first drank this in Germany in 1982 and I know it became popuilar in the UK at about the same time! TinyMark 18:22, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Not a rum

Fixed. (Took just a bit under 10 years...) For example German law requires a beverage to have a minimum content of 37.5 ABV to be sold as a "Rum". --BjKa (talk) 12:34, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Canadian?

I purchased a bottle of Malibu this last weekend in Iowa, USA, and the labeling said "Product of Canada". Is this still made in Barbados? Is it then sent to Canada before coming to the USA? I wonder why they don't import it directly from Barbados? What I think is going on is that they import Barbados rum into Canada, then blend together the ingredients to make Malibu there. This would account for it being "made with Barbados rum" (as the Malibu official website says) and it still being a Product of Canada. 147.155.182.23 (talk) 02:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

The product is based on Barbados rum and blended and bottled in Canada contains sugar which it is cheaper to purchase on the world market and add in Canada. US TV promotion has different site.

The promotion airing in the US market is saying the website is www.radiomaliboomboom.com (still under construction). The funny thing is the commercial doesn't sound anything like a Barbadian accent. They sound like a fake Jamaican accent. CaribDigita (talk) 03:52, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Special winter edition in Canada

Page says there is a summer and winter edition available in UK. I don't know about the summer edition, but I have bought the winter one here in canada Matmat07 (talk) 14:10, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Whence the name?

Does anybody have information as to why the producers named this product Malibu? If they want to give their drink a Caribbean cachet, then the name of a place which is in California (and thus pretty damn far away from the Caribbean) seems to be a bad choice. Of course there are other places in the world named Malibu in addition to the one in California; but none of them seems to be close to the Caribbean. SchnitteUK (talk) 09:46, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

You'd have to ask Diageo. My guess is, that the culture depicted by Hollywood TV at that time often depicted a certain Californian beach lifestyle. Especially for worldwide sales "Malibu" evoked a much more glamourous image than any name of some third-world place in some obscure middle-american banana republic (intentionally worded for dramatic purpose - no personal disrespect meant for the carribean). --BjKa (talk) 12:49, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

This drink was around way before Diageo. Diageo was found only in late 1990s, while the drink is more than 10 years older.

About the year: this article has "ca. 1982", Spanish article has 1980, while German has Malibu was first produced in 1895 on Barbados in the Caribbean (Chrome translation), French also has 1895. 91.154.188.185 (talk) 00:54, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
