Couple of quibbles

edit

I am really impressed by this article, one of the best schools articles I have seen, and hope that somebody makes the press for this to reach featured status soon.

What's impressed me most is the structure of the article and the quality of the referencing. The article consists of a series of well-structured factual claims about the school, and these facts largely can be backed up completely by identical factual claims in the references.

My only quibbles with the article are:

  • A reference should be found for the school's catchment area (specifically the claim "The school primarily serves students from the central and eastern parts of Lubbock, but the school's LEAP program serves students from all over the city." (That should, incidentally, be explored in more depth elsewhere, as the WP:LEAD is meant to summarize information from further below in the article)
  • You really need to reference the musical links - it shouldn't be too hard to find a source.
  • The Academic Decathlon section is underreferenced - the reference only confirms the court challenge. It would probably be a good idea to remove personal details (individual names) from this section too.

Many thanks, TheGrappler 14:13, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comments. I removed the individuals' names from that section; I agree that it is probably best for them to be left out. As for your other comments, I will work on addressing them in the near future. Thanks again for the comments. Ultimately achieving FA status is my goal for this article; it's good to know that you think it's moving toward that. --Myles Long 18:12, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

As of next year there will be no more friday classes, but school will still get out at 12:35.

GA comment

edit

For the article to maintain its GA status, the copyrighted images need detailed fair use rationales. Look to other passed GA/FAs for examples. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions. --Nehrams2020 06:48, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

A few questions

edit

This article does not seem to include anywhere any information about the ages of the children who attend the school. Normally such information is included in the infoboxes. Do children move to this school at age 11 or at age 14? When do they leave the school? The statement about the mascot is also very puzzling to non-Americans. What is a Westerner? I think you need to explain. Dahliarose 14:16, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I will add information about the grade-levels/ages of students. However, even though I attended the school, I have no idea what a Westerner is. As far as I know, it's never been made clear. --Myles Long 16:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the additions. I've changed the links as there are pages for all the various grades. The secondary education in the US article is not very helpful as it doesn't mention ages, and all these grade numbers are meaningless to anyone outside the US. It seems very odd having a mascot when no one knows what it's supposed to be. Is there perhaps a picture of the mascot somewhere? Dahliarose 17:36, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Lubbockhighlogo.jpg

edit

Image:Lubbockhighlogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

GA Reassessment

edit
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Lubbock High School/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

Hello. I am doing a reassessment of this article for GA Sweeps. Here are some issues I see:

  • A good deal of the information is unsourced. This will have to be fixed.
  • Endashes belong between date ranges. See MOS:DASH.
  • Inline references need to be in numerical order within the prose.
  • The alumni is entirely unsourced.
  • More than half the refs are primary. Are there any other sources that can be used, as well?

I'll give the editors of the article a week to fix this first set of problems, before giving some more specific and detailed suggestions. Otherwise, the article will be delisted. Thanks. Nikki311 21:10, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am delisting the article due to lack of improvement. Nikki311 03:20, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Westerner is essentialy a cowboy and kids ages 14-19 usually attend there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.216.47.223 (talk) 03:07, 2 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
