One Liberty Place: "Philadelphia's First Skyscraper"

This is a contentious statement to make, and I would recommend removing or clarifying it. The PSFS Building (now called the Loew's Philadelphia Hotel) was built in 1932, and the page for that building describes it as "a skyscraper" in the very first sentence. My guess is that whoever added this comment meant a skyscraper beyond a certain height, perhaps meaning the first to surpass the height of City Hall.

The page for One Liberty Place also claims it is the city's first skyscraper, but it links to this page as its only source of the claim. 100.0.174.15 (talk) 23:13, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Removal of Buildings Under 400 ft high

I have removed all buildings that rise less than 400 ft high (the last 25) from the tallest buildings list. There should be a height basis for listing buildings, not a set number. "50" is a random number. Why not 40, 60, or 100? It is always best to list buildings based on a set height minimum, and 400 ft seems reasonable for this list. A second reason to remove the latter 26 buildings was because out of all 26 buildings, there were only 3 articles. In order to be a complete list, each building needs to have an article. This is a great list, and is almost ready for nomination at WP:FLC to become a Featured list, but in order to do this the each building listed needs an article. Raime 20:39, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Timeline of Tallest Buildings

This may seem to be a bit hypercritical, but how are the dates for the timeline as tallest building established? Since the official opening of the Comcast Center was May 2008, that would make the date accurate. However, the Comcast Center surpassed the height of Liberty Place in mid 2007 I think (I've been tracking progress on phillyskyline.com). I believe the same would apply for when One Liberty Place surpassed City Hall. Just a thought. PhilaDubliner 09:57, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

They are established by a building's actual date of completion (and not the date when a still under construction building surpassed the other in height) to keep the dates consistent with the ones in the main "Tallest buildings" table. Also, unless a building is completed or topped out, it usually isn't considered the tallest in the city; for example, the Taipei 101 is still the offcial tallest in the world, even though the still under construction Burj Dubai is substantially taller. Tallest masonry building inconsistency.

The third paragraph claims that Philadelphia City Hall is the currently the world's tallest masonry building. This contradicts the Philadelphia City Hall article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_City_Hall), which states that it is the world's second-tallest masonry building. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.175.125.117 (talk) 03:24, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Outdated picture

Can we please replace the 2007 picture from the old South Street Bridge? The pic from the northwest, at the bottom of the intro section, is better IMO in that it includes Cira but it's missing Evo which was finished almost two years ago. Does the W/Element Building Need Its Own Article?

The new W Hotel and Element by Westin Philadelphia, opened in 2020, may be the tallest building in the United States without its own article on Wikipedia; It just links to the article for the W Hotels chain. Why this? Perhaps a notability test for this hotel should be taken before an article is created for it? If it doesn't pass that notability test, delete the link. (BTW, the Philadelphia property is not mentioned in the W Hotels article itself.) Jim856796 (talk) 14:56, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

I created an article for it: The W Philadelphia and Element Philadelphia. It was certainly notable considering its top 10 in the city, with much smaller buildings on the list having an article. Hij802 (talk) 05:28, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
