Talk:List of surnames in Russia

Latest comment: 2 years ago by Scope creep in topic Added Maximovitch

Untitled edit

This list is to help find orphaned articles about family names (surnames) found throughout the Russian Federation.
Note 1: this is different from the list of surnames that originated in Russia as there are people living in the country with numerous ethnic backgrounds, and, therefore, surnames, from all over the former USSR, Europe, and Asia. It also serves as an indication in the English Wikipedia to potentially point out the articles on family names that may need to be created. If you or your relatives live in Russia, go ahead and add your surname to the list. This list is periodically updated from its original location semi-automatically (see the talk page for details).
Note 2: it is also quite possible on the English Wikipedia that the transliterated versions may match some equivalent common Slavic surnames of Ukrainians, Belarusians, Bulgarians, and others.

In case of errors edit

  • Note, the actual list (i.e. not including the top para, and the bottom section, etc.) is maintained semi-automatically by me using a Perl script I wrote to transliterate the list from ruwiki. The script is in its alpha version, so it may easily produce transliteration errors. If you find some, please let me know. If the modifications are made to this list, and are not reflected in the original list on ruwiki, I would generally port the modifications back from here to the ruwiki, and then sync it back. --Mokhov (talk) 21:41, 1 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • Also to add to the above, there are sometimes exceptions to the transliteration of the family names, and the script can support them - let me know of any that are not honored. --Mokhov (talk) 21:51, 1 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Isaac Asimov Missing? edit

I didn't do too, too much research on it, but I don't see any way in which Asimov changed his name based on his wikipedia article. Is there a reason "asimov" as a name is not included here? Uprisingengineer (talk) 23:48, 9 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Added Maximovitch edit

I added a surname Maximovitch article, but couldn't find the Russian version, so never added it here. scope_creepTalk 13:25, 16 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
