Posted feedback re: ASX open time edit

I posted this feedback today:

ASX's opening time was changed to 9:50 from 10:00 here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_market_opening_times&diff=471797629&oldid=469503709
on 17 January 2012 without a reason (e.g. a source cited).
Clicking on "Australian Securities Exchange" to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Securities_Exchange shows there that the open time of the normal trading time is 10:00 (i.e. in section http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Securities_Exchange#Trading_systems ).
Clicking on "Official website" under http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Securities_Exchange#External_links also confirms this.
I just wanted to bring this up first and double-check thoughts on this issue before attempting to edit back this page to 10:00 for ASX. Thanks!

This is my first time posting feedback (and never have edited a Wikipedia article or what not before). Not sure if there will be a response. Just wondering if anyone else reading this have thoughts? Thanks!

AFD edit

Per WP:AFDHOW, I am nominating this list for deletion. The list, created in February 2007, in part duplicates a subset of about 50 exchanges from an existing list, for that subset, it add columns on open, lunch, and closed times, none of which is referenced, and all of which could be considered WP:MISCELLANEA. Routine online searches do indicate that refs for these times appear to be available, at least in some cases. Nevertheless, even if the times are notable there is no justification for having a list of open times maintained separately and for only an unspecified subset of the exchanges. 72.244.206.168 (talk) 12:53, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

P.S. also per AFDHOW, as an unregistered editor, I have completed step I, noted the justification for deletion above, and am posting a message at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion requesting that someone else complete the process. 72.244.206.168 (talk) 12:53, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Using major stock exchanges edit

Now that {{Major stock exchanges}} has columns on times, I changed this article to use that template. 72.244.206.254 (talk) 01:36, 19 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

List of market opening timesList of financial market opening times – current name is too vague (issue identified by two editors during the AFD) 72.244.206.254 (talk) 01:54, 19 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

As noted by Phil Bridger (talk · contribs) and Staberinde (talk · contribs) in recent deletion discussion, the current name is too vague. 72.244.206.254 (talk) 01:54, 19 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Faulty Redesign edit

I believe that the recent redesign of this list is a step in the wrong direction. Here's why:

  1. The original "List of Market Opening Times" was focused on opening times. This new list has lost that focus, making it unwieldy and therefore less useful.
  2. The prior list was sorted by opening times starting with the first market to open on Monday. With a 24 hour forex market and the fact that currency movements are highly correlated with the open and close of their respective equity and futures markets, the previous list was very useful for currency trading.
  3. By incorporating many new fields (1) Rank, 2) Economy 3) Headquarters 4) Market Capitalization 5) Year to date Trade Value, the current list has a lot of superfluous information. Anyone who wanted that extra information could have easily retrieved it by clicking on the respective links for each stock exchange, or going to other lists. It seems to me that a list dedicated to opening times should focus on just that.
  4. Sorting by Market Cap has nothing to do with opening times. It has to do with Market Cap.
  5. The previous list incorporated many more markets and was growing. For anyone trading currencies, that too was useful.

In conclusion, perhaps separate lists are needed. Any comments?--Sadalsuud (talk) 13:59, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Time zones edit

Giving the time zones as abbreviations (like EST) and separate from that the daylight savings time isn't really useful. First of all, those change, and second, the exchanges simply follow the local time zone rules, thus listing the time zone rules here is only confusing, since that has nothing to do with opening times of exchanges.

Thus, for example, for NYSE, exchange "EST" and the daylight savings time numbers to simply say "America/New York", which is the correct time zone.
