To Do List edit

Currently, there is disagreement on whether red-linked authors should appear in the main list. For now, I am posting the list of authors here, so that we can still see them and continue to create articles for them.

  • I've removed the list of names because of the same reason that we removed the redlinks from the main page. The reason is that people were just listing names that have little to no chance of passing WP:AUTHOR and I don't doubt that many of these people were posting their own names in the hopes of having their name show up on a Wikipedia or Google hit. You can see the previous list of names at [1], but this was quickly turning into a long and unmanageable list of names for spammers to add their own name to. The thing about this list is that we have other places for people to request articles on authors, such as here. It's inappropriate to create a full list on the talk page and I honestly should've gotten rid of it a while ago. If anyone coming into this wants to suggest an author, do so here, but ensure that the author actually passes WP:AUTHOR. If the person hasn't been the focus of enough reliable sources, then adding their name to the list will accomplish very little. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but we can't find sources where none exist. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 16:40, 28 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • It also didn't help that it took up a HUGE portion of the talk page, making it difficult to actually find or have any extensive discussion about the page. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 16:41, 28 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

promoting websites edit

I've noticed this on several of the newly created authors websites and thought I would broach the subject here. In the external links section and references section on some of these pages it looks like somebody is promoting websites. Wikipedia does not exist to promote websites and it looks like that's what's being done in some of these cases. A good example is this which I just removed from Jill Shalvis's page:

Fantastic Fiction, All Romance Writers, Mills & Boon's, and Harlequin Enterprises Ltd's websites are the ones that are being frequently added and I think it's a problem. Not because they're being used as references in the page, if it were just that it wouldn't be a problem, but because the links are being added in a way that looks like the link itself is being promoted. Anybody else concerned or noticed this, or am I being way off base? --ImmortalGoddezz 21:27, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I definitely have a problem with the links to the main page for Fantastic Fiction and All Romance Writers. From WP:EL, links should relate directly to the subject of the article, and those do not. Also, WP:EL requires that any external links not require additional registration. All Romance Writes does require registration to get into any of the links on the page, and it provides a booklist, the same as Fantastic Fiction. I would recommend having only one link, called Jill Shalvis Booklist, which links to Fantastic Fiction. If we are including the list of works in the article, however, then it is not necessary to include the link in the external links, so we wouldn't need any here.
I'd also like to encourage the use of inline references (see WP:CITE) for new articles. I'm trying to go back and fix some of the earlier articles that I created without inline references because I'm worried that they'll be deleted again. It's much better to cite Fantastic Fiction as the source of the booklist, and then cite other reputable sources for the biography content in the article. Karanacs 16:14, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

WorldCat Genres edit

Hello, I'm working with OCLC, and we are algorithmically generating data about different Genres, like notable Authors, Book, Movies, Subjects, Characters and Places. We have determined that this Wikipedia page has a close affintity to our detected Genere of love-stories. It might be useful to look at [2] for more information. Thanks. Romance novelists, not romantic novelists edit

Grammatically and idiomatically, this is a list of "romance novelists," not "romantic novelists." The page should be retitled. (I would do it, but I don't know how.) 173.28.194.241 (talk) 06:35, 9 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
