what qualifies as a "major crime"

I'm concerned that what qualifies as a "major crime" may be somewhat subjective. Perhaps "List of infamous crimes in Japan" would be more appropriate, as notoriety is easier to objectively ascertain. Deranged bulbasaur 08:31, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree. It is completely unclear what "major" means. If a bunch of Yakuza kill each other, that would seem to be "major", but just the major Yakuza crimes would be much longer than even the current list. There is mention also of a family of four being killed in their homes, which doesn't seem as "major" as other crimes on the list. As mentioned below, if "major" means attracted considerable media attention, this is problematic because not only does media attention sometime behave disproportionately to the magnitude of the crime, but some on the list are not even established crimes, such as the alleged murder by a nurse in a clinic or the suspected arson of a building. For example, regarding media attention, the train rape mentioned below got seemingly scant attention in Japan. I suggest the list criterion be established or it will remain an obvious deletion candidate. --C S (talk) 23:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

List needs major work

The list is missing several high profile/infamous crimes in Japan. For instance, it doesnt seem to include the incident where 3 men abducted a girl and abused her for 40 days before murdering her. Nor does it include any mention of the infamous train rape in which 40+ passengers just sat idly by and let it happen. Question2 21:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

the information regarding joji obara is incorrect. He was in fact acquitted of the abduction and nurder of lucie Blackman, though he was convicted of several other crimes, as suggested.

Name in Sasebo Slashing

The talk page of the article decided to remove all mentions of the girl's name, due to it being illegal to reveal the name of a criminal minor in Japan (even if formerly revealed), and out of respect for the girl's family. Should the same be done here, as well as, perhaps, mentioning that the girl is frequently referred to as Nevada-tan? Alanahikarichan (talk) 23:44, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
