I created this article based on the new intrest the Christian community has in its universal and historical heritage. For centuries the Christian church has been filled with schism and continues to be so.

I plan on adding more leaders eventually but I am currently too busy and frankly I don't spend much time editing on wiki.

I want to ask for help however on certain things that I find myself unable to do.

1. Could you please insert pictures in the appropriate sections to make the article more informative and better quality.

2.Since this article represents current leaders of their respective church it will need to be updated constantly as a new leader takes over after the other leaves his position. I would appreciate it if you would help me in keeping the article up to date with the most current standings.

3. Any refrences or statistics would be very helpful since new census information is constantly coming up concerning number of congregants and so on.

4. Any internal or external link to relevant articles would be appreciated.

5. Any editing for grammar and spelling would always be welcomed.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. The purpose of this article is not to promote Christianity in anyway, simply to provide the facts. Other wikipedians will be watching and edit as they see fit. I have already done so. Gavin (talk) 20:37, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

I admit that you are correct. I misspoke and I have corrected my statement. However I think what is more important is that I have presented facts fairly and refrenced them. I appreciate your editing and would still appreciate any help according to the five points I put above. I hope other wikipedians will not edit how they see fit but in a way that will make this article of better quality in accordance with the aim of the article. Aim of the article? What is that? I meant they will edit when and what they feel is necessary to edit and I suspect will do so in accordance with the aim of wikipedia, not just a single article. Gavin (talk) 06:44, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

The aim of the article is obviously what is stated in the heading of the article. To present current leaders of Christian churches or denominations that adhere to the Nicene Creed. It's not very complicated, and what I meant is that I hope people don't take the kind of secular liberty that I have often seen with many religious articles. You have a lot of faith in Wiki editors but I have seen just as much bias on Wiki as in anywhere in life. And I hope they don't do things as they see fit, but as will work in making this article better quality in reaching its stated objective in the heading. All I was doing was asking for help in developing the article and I was giving ideas with the help I need. Cleanup?

Whoever put the cleanup tag in, could you please explain what you mean by links in the heading. I would like to clean up the article but I seriously do not understand what you mean and what you think needs cleaning up. I would also like to note that this article is very much still in the making. I plan on adding at least a dozen more leaders to the list so if it has anything to do with its brevity or lack of subject matter please be patient, or help out. Section headings, the ones between the sets of equals signs, are not supposed to have any Wikilinks in them (clickable words made using brackets). The text of the section should be written in such a way as to be able to make the links from the text rather than from the section headings. Yworo (talk) 03:57, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Merge

It was proposed, that this article can be merged with List of current patriarchs. I strongly disagree, because not all Christian leaders are patriarchs (as Archbishop of Canterbury) and not all patriarchs are leaders (as patriarch of Venice).BTW no reasons for merge are provided by nominator. --Yopie (talk) 02:18, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

But they can still be merged under the name List of current Christian leaders. The patriarch of Venice is a leader, just not the "top" leader. There is no need to keep this page as a list of only "top" leaders. ^{Carlaude:Talk} 02:32, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

I agree with Yopie. Not all leaders aare patriarchs and some are merely spiritual figureheads and leaders. I think this page stands on its own and it highlights those important leaders of large Christian bodies which the vast majority of Christians look to for leadership. Of the leaders already depicted nearly 1.5 billion Christians would come under their guidance and that is why "top" leaders are important. I also agree with Yopie, That merge may be fine for some on this list but where would it leave Archbishop of Canterbury or Queen Elizabeth II? I Oppose any merge. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 16:43, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

I am also against the merger. Patriarchs are a particular kind of Christian leader involving a certain historical salience, a primacy of jurisdiction, and apostolic succession, criteria which may be met without being in any way an important Christian leader in the global perspective (consider for example that this article gives only one leader for the Catholic Church, while the List of current Patriarchs article gives more than a dozen Patriarchs and the like within the Catholic Church). Regarding the proposed merger, the discussion seems to be over and the consensus seems to be against the merger. It is my understanding that discussions about possible mergers are not supposed to last anywhere near as long as this one has (roughly a year and a half), and since there was obviously never a consensus in favor of a merger, I am going to remove the tags from both articles. I agree that it would do well to have a section about Pope Shenouda III. Given the order of primacy among the Triumverate at Nicaea (Rome, Alexandria, Antioch), the Coptic Pope is technically the first ranking among the Oriental Orthodox and is often considered their spiritual leader. Elizabeth II

Mormonism?

This page talks about Christian denominations of the Nicene Creed, if so how come the LDS is included in here? They are after all non-trinitarian which is the hall-mark of the Nicene Creed, and they also belive that the Christian church "apostasized" after the Apostles died therefore the Nicene Creed is invalid according to them. Sorry to reply to this a little bit late - other solutions could be to rename the list to something like "List of current orthodox Christian leaders", which IMO seems a wee bit too specialized, or change the definition in the lede so it matches with every other "List of Christian ****" by removing the Nicene Creed qualification. The latter option would make it match better with the see also link to List of religious leaders in 2010#Christianity at the top. --FyzixFighter (talk) 14:09, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Anglican Communion and Archbishop of Canterbury

Here are some primary references regarding the statement that churches must be in communion with the See of Canterbury in order to be considered part of the Anglican Communion.

Journalists tend to gloss over issues of church polity (structure), which limits the availability of secondary/tertiary sources. Here's one possibility.

Perhaps there are some academic sources available, but I don't have good access to such a library.
