Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on March 27, 2016.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that Mad Max: Fury Road won awards for its editing, costume design, and production design at the Academy Awards, and BAFTAs?

Should film accolades table entries where the film itself is the nominee have blank entries or repeat the film's titles?

edit

@Cyphoidbomb, Krimuk90, and FrB.TG: Recently a number of film accolade articles have had the film titles removed from the table by IreneTandry when the film itself was the nominee [[1]], [[2]], [[3]]. This was because it was thought to be wasteful and that it follows convention [[4]]. [[5]]. I think that we should have the film title in the table so that the reader knows the film was nominated/won in that category rather than leaving it blank. I would be interested in thoughts of other people and am happy either way as long there is consensus. Cowlibob (talk) 15:50, 29 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Right! Besides, it looks really weird to leave it blank. FrB.TG (talk) 16:21, 29 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
I think it might be wise to run this question past WikiProject Film to get more input and to see if there's a community consensus. I don't know how weird it looks. Doesn't it seem redundant to include the film's name if we already know that the film is the subject of the article? If you see "Best Film", do you wonder what movie we're talking about? Some of the featured list articles seem to include the title like List of accolades received by Brokeback Mountain and List of accolades received by Dallas Buyers Club and List of accolades received by Mary Kom (film). Don't know if this represents consensus, or common practice, or if it's a coincidence. I don't have a strong feeling about this either way, though. The overlinking, however, irks me... You see, Best Film does not necessarily go to the film itself. Certain awards name the film as the recipient of the award while there are a few that award the producers e.g. we can see so in the List of accolades received by Brokeback Mountain; there the nominee for the Best Picture Oscars is not the film but the producers. As far as redundancy is concerned, I think we already know the name of director, actors, and others too (since they are introduced in the lead), right? As for the overlinking part, it does not apply to sortable tables. Cheers, FrB.TG (talk) 18:54, 29 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
I am not too fussed either way, but it doesn't hurt to explicitly include the film's title if there wasn't an actual recipient. One thing to bear in mind is that it is theoretically possible for two films to share a win, so explicitly listing the winning film(s) will make it clear if the film is a solo or joint winner.
