Sources for expanding

Some sources I found for expanding and adding new games to the article.

I found these on Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Search engine. If anyone else wants to find anything, you should search things there. Panini!🥪 12:21, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Inclusion criteria

I've done the quick write up of the expected inclusion criteria detailed in the split discussion at Special:Diff/1022788992 (Using diff as it'll eventually be archived). -- ferret (talk) 14:00, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Expanded it a bit by clarifying further; explained in a bit of detail because I expect younger editors to add stuff in the article. Panini!🥪 14:10, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Mention of a game being a classic on Roblox

Do any sources say that some of these games have been considered classics on Roblox? I feel like Work at a Pizza Place is one considering its been around for a while but if it's not mentioned in the sources then we shouldn't mention it (I'm pretty sure its not mentioned already). Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 14:50, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Blaze The Wolf, This is the best that I could find.
"This roleplaying game is one of the most longstanding on the platform (launched in 2008), and other successful Roblox creators like Callmehbob say it was among top favorites before they came up with her own ideas."
In addition, I'd take an additional look at The best Roblox games for a developer (Dued1) comment. There are additional snippets of content that can be used to expand multiple game sections in this list. Both of these sources are in this article already; if you're looking to expand, I'd suggest going through each source already on this article and seeing if there is other content that wasn't explained to its fullest, such as developer comments and reviews from the writers who made those "Top Roblox Games" lists. Looking through a few, I found a lot that goes unmentioned. Panini!🥪 14:59, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Could be helpful. As long as the source is reliable though Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 15:00, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Also, I don't see the need to include the Roblox Studio logo when the page makes no mention of it. Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 15:01, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
In the lead, "... has had numerous games created by users of their creation tool, Roblox Studio." In addition, the image caption is there to explain what it is as well. Panini!🥪 15:44, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Ah ok. Cool (Fun fact: The Roblox studio logo used to just be the Roblox logo, but Blue) Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 13:30, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Brookhaven RP

Looking at the entry for Brookhaven RP, I question that it has enough sourcing for this list. The coverage cited is not actually primarily about the game, it's about other games, with Brookhaven being mentioned only in passing. Since there does not seem to be enough actual content about the game in reliable sources, I reckon it should be removed from the article. Devonian Wombat (talk) 23:09, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

We aren't exactly trying to meet GNG on any of these. They'd have their own article in that case. Four mentions across reliable sources of being one of the biggest games and challenging others in player counts is enough to show sources are aware of it. A little more in-depth would be nice, but there's enough secondary mention. We're also no where close to where we'd need to look at an edge case as potentially be removed for size reasons, etc, either. -- ferret (talk) 23:42, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Other Games

Disclaimer: below is just some comments, no hate towards the creator of this page.

This is not a full list of roblox games, this is just popular games that have been existed in roblox, other games may include: Tower Defense Simualtor, Aimblox, Gucci Garden, etc. Bacony Playzroblox (talk) 10:12, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I'm the creator of the article. And no worries, I dont feel hated.
Yes, this article does not contain every game in existence. If it did, that would be horrible for our servers. So indeed, emphasis on the popular; while it's a list, we still have to adhere to WP:GNG, our notability guidelines. In simple terms, it must be sourced by reliable sources and received significant coverage in order to be included. Panini!🥪 13:22, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
In addition to what Panini said, you should probably look at the inclusion criteria. Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 17:55, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
@Bacony Playzroblox: yes it is only popular games. There are hundreds of thousands (maybe millions idk) games on roblox. Listing every single on of them would be impossible. TigerScientist Chat > contribs 23:24, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

Article Name/Deletion

Hey, So this article is a bit.. odd. The name suggests that it contains every single Roblox game in existence which is impossible and implausible because as a platform it has hundreds of thousands of different places and experiences, all of them can be considered games in their own regard. Now had the name of the article been List of NOTABLE Roblox experiences/games, this might have worked, but there would have been issues with some developers with notable games, asking why their game was excluded. Also due to the recent Apple v Epic Lawsuit, Roblox has renamed Roblox places from "games" to "experiences" and as a result the article no longer correlates to the name of the page. Maybe recreate this page under a different name or simply move the article? EVaDiSh (talk) 00:27, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

We don't name articles that way, such as putting "notable" as it means in Wikipedia context in the title. We also don't really care if a developer is bothered their game isn't listed. Regardless of what Roblox is calling them, COMMONNAME will still be simply "games". As for why it's not "every game ever", see the inclusion criteria at the top of the page. WP:LISTCRITERIA for more information. -- ferret (talk) 00:30, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
Oh alright then, my bad. EVaDiSh (talk) 00:33, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

NDS controversy

A while ago, Natural Disaster Survival added 3 new maps, and a particular disaster called 'virus'...I think we all know where that came from. It has received not a lot of popularity in the Roblox community. Is there any reliable sources talking about it and should we include them here? Cha010 (talk) 13:07, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

You can try searching for reliable sources via WP:VG/S's custom google search. -- ferret (talk) 13:13, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Major games that could be Included.

I have a list of notable games that should be included.

This includes- Arsenal (2019). Super Bomb Survival (2014/2015). Hide and Seek Extreme (2014/2015). Tornado Alley (2009), Prison life (2009), Welcome to the town of Robloxia (2009), Sword fight on the heights 3 (2009), and many others from old Roblox. MoonlightVector 15:21, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Read the inclusion criteria at the top of the page and provide reliable secondary sources. -- ferret (talk) 15:50, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
The only issue I can see with "Welcome to the town of Robloxia" is it's been copied so many times that the original version has practically been lost, so there might be some issues with finding secondary sourcing for that one (and it might have been copied so much that people didn't bother creating secondary sources for it because they're like, "oh great, another one that's barely changed, NEXT!"). Other than that some of these (especially Prison Life) could be a bit easier, Prison Life because it's the basis of JailBreak so maybe people have created secondary sources for it because of that factor. The only other one that I could see having secondary sourcing would be Super Bomb Survival. But you're welcome to try and find secondary sourcing for them! Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) (Stupidity by me) 16:01, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
I have multiple reasons for including these.
Arsenal- Most popular game of 2019 and 2020
Super Bomb Surival- First Roblox game for the Xbox One Version
Hide and Seek Extreme- Most Popular game of 2014 and 2015
Tornado Alley- Popular game from 2009 to 2017 (Shut down in 2021)
Prison Life- As you said, inspiration for jailbreak, but also one of the most popular games of 2009
Welcome to the town of Robloxia Classic- Same as you said, but also again one of the most popular games of 2009
SFOTH3 (Sword fight on the Heights 3)- Most popular game of 2006 to 2009 MoonlightVector 16:07, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
Also, Due to the lack of third party news, most of the research has to be self-published. Especially for games like Prison life and SFOTH3. Roblox in 2009 was kinda not cared about. MoonlightVector 16:10, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
MoonlightVector, To prove basic notability on Wikipedia (see WP:GNG), content must have sources that are reliable, (mainly) come from secondary sources unrelated to the material (WP:Primary sources). There needs to be a good-sized amount of this, too (WP:SIGCOV). From the looks of it, these possible new additions sadly do not pass these thresholds. Panini!🥪 16:39, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
I know that some might, but not all i said. MoonlightVector 16:42, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

More games!

I think somebody should add these games: SharkBite, Epic Minigames, Loomian Legacy (same to Brickbronze, maybe it is brickbronze after some copyright media removing), Ninja Legends, Flee the Facility , Bakon, and Guesty. Leomk0403 (talk) 09:50, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

You'll need to provide sourcing then. See the inclusion criteria at the top of the page. -- ferret (talk) 14:44, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
The only ones I could see possibly having sourcing would be Loomian Legacy (being Brick Bronze but without copyright) and Epic Minigames (due to its age). Otherwise I don't think any of the others would. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:58, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Diversity in this article

Other upcoming popular games should be mentioned, and ones of different genres such as bee swarm simulator or clone tycoon 2 to represent other common genres. Additionally, the ridiculous number of randomly themed obbys is something that still baffles me today. I would suggest there also be a part of the arrival explaining how even “free robux” games can’t give robux for free as robux are not free 90.216.183.231 (talk) 06:13, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Piggy's 'citation needed'

Currently, § Piggy has a 'citation needed' for: "The full version is currently being worked on by a 16 developer team." The same editor added this developer count as 14, later changed it to 16. That editor User:BingoBangoYong0, who is blocked indefinitely, initially added as source a Getrevue.co article that (currently) lists 15 people under a "Development Team" heading. Getrevue.co is Revue, a Twitter-service,[3][4] and newsletter platform. Most likely, the article author, "Piggy News", is a primary source (WP:USINGPRIMARY) in Wikipedia context. I'll leave it up to other editor(s) to decide what is the correct action here, but that's where the claim in the article comes from. --77.162.8.57 (talk) 16:01, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Funky Friday listed under "licensed"

Funky Friday is not licensed at all. It is a knock off of Friday Night Funkin. The game has microtransactions and which the owners (NOT ASSOCIATED WITH FRIDAY NIGHT FUNKIN) make money from. According to a site which estimates how much money a Roblox game is worth, it is worth ~$5,000,000. The owners of Friday Night Funkin' never allowed Lyte or Gamefam to make a fan game with microtransactions in it. There was a file in Friday Night Funkin' which said it allowed you to do anything you wanted to the game, but this obviously seems like it had limits as a controversy with Gamefam and the Friday Night Funkin' team now arose because of the microtransactions and the fact that Funky Friday, a game NOT officially associated with the Friday Night Funkin' developer team has collaborated with Sonic Prime. The post on Twitter by ninjamuffin99 is here.

Yeah if a developer is literally contacting his lawyers on his options about a fan game/knock off then I don't think that screams licensed. 23.242.147.212 (talk) 01:38, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

Slap Battles

Slap Battles is a game about slapping people into oblivion with different "Gloves". Gloves can be unlocked in 3 different ways: Gamepasses, Slaps, and Badges. You earn Slaps by hitting people with your Gloves. A Glove looks like a hand on a stick, and each Glove has a different ability. There is a Killstreak Glove, known to be one of the most powerful and annoying Gloves. The 2 most powerful are the Error Glove (Requires 20,000 Slaps) And the Overkill Glove (Requires Gamepass). The #1 most powerful Glove is the Error Glove. It teleports players that are hit into the void. 76.143.10.228 (talk) 18:53, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Roblox_games#Arsenal) Arsenal is listed as "notably similar to Call of Duty". The game actually takes inspiration from CS:GO's Arms Race mode, even including multiple CS:GO maps (e.g. Dizzy, Safehouse). Maybe change "notably similar to Call of Duty" to "inspired by the Arms Race mode in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive".

Sorry, I'm going to disagree. All four sources are the weakest form of coverage for these publications, being "how to" guides which fall along the lines of wiki-type guidance. None of them are reviews or commentary of the game. These kinds of "how to" pages are a type of churnalism that doesn't rise to the bar of sigcov in anyway. -- ferret (talk) 16:22, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
I was assuming that the fact that these major publications even noticed the game meant it was worth something. QuicoleJR (talk) 16:29, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
Content sales. We're looking for specific types of coverage. Commentary and reception, details on development. When the sources are "ALL ACTIVE CODES TO GET BONUS ITEMS!" how-to type sources, it's just random fodder for clicks, not coverage. -- ferret (talk) 16:37, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Frontlines

Frontlines is a Roblox shooter game that, while not being the most popular game in the genre, being defeated by Phantom Forces and only having 22 million visits, has been covered extensively by outside media, where it has been compared to AAA releases such as Call of Duty and even considered a clone. [16] [17] [18] [19], Even before it's release a couple months ago, it was gaining media coverage [20] for having arguably the most impressive graphics on the platform. As a result of the media coverage, I believe that the game deserves a spot on the list for meeting the criteria. NegativeMP1 (talk) 23:29, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Since Frontlines is playable on mobile, this article interviewing the games creator should count: [24], and since the WP:VG/S article says articles made by TheGamer after 2020 are "generally considered reliable", I think I can repost this one: [25] NegativeMP1 (talk) 00:49, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
That's a much better selection. I'd say it can be added. -- ferret (talk) 14:21, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

iHeartLand

Would iHeartLand be notable enough to add to this list? So far I've found this source which seems to talk about both the Roblox game and the Fortnite...whatever so I'm not entirely sure on that. I've also found this business wire/bloomberg source which seems to maybe be a press release (Bloomberg says it's a press release but Business Wire doesn't exactly say if it is). Not exactly sure if there's enough sources on it to be worth adding here, part of the issue seems to be that iHeartMedia/Radio also created another place in Fortnite by the same name so I'm getting sources for both the Roblox and Fortnite one. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:15, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Naw. Hollywoodreporter is secondary but oh so trivial in mention, and reports it as a future thing. The other is a press release. -- ferret (talk) 22:56, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
Fair enough, there's a chance it may become notable enough to be added in the future given how big iHeartRadio/Media is, but for now clearly not. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 00:50, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

Should inclusion criteria be updated?, proposal of edit notice for article

Recently, ferret removed a listing of game on the basis the only sources, even though they were from sites considered reliable, provided were how-to guides, not reviews or commentary. Should the stated inclusion criteria be updated to reflect this?

Also, I would like to be propose an edit notice for the article, which is based on the current inclusion criteria for now. This would potentially stop inclusions of ineligible games by users who do not see the talk page. Currently, there's a commented-out notice, but I feel that an edit notice would be more useful.

(Based on Template:Editnotices/Page/List of Sonic the Hedgehog characters) ❤︎PrincessPandaWiki (talk | contribs) 03:20, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

Adding onto this, should the inclusion criteria be specified in the article itself? There's a chance new people don't read the talk page opening at first (for example, I didn't) and it would make things more clear to someone reading the page. Other video game lists such as "List of video games considered the best" specify the inclusion criteria in the article itself as well. NegativeMP1 (talk) 15:56, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
I'm not opposed to tweaking the language the specifically say "coverage such as a review or other direct commentary". -- ferret (talk) 15:58, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
Can you provide reasoning for why how-to guides aren't allowed in language that younger editors can understand? ❤︎PrincessPandaWiki (talk | contribs) 16:05, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
Because what we're trying to demonstrate here is that the game has the slightest degree of WP:N. Not enough for an article, but a source or two have actually taken note of the game in the context of WP:GNG. HOWTO articles fail GNG and are regularly tossed out at AFD. -- ferret (talk) 16:08, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

Michael's Zombies

Michael's Zombies is a game with game play very similar to Call of Duty: Zombies that might be eligible for an entry.

Sources supporting it: [26] [27] [28] [29]

Only reason I'm questioning whether or not it's significant enough is because its one independent article is from Screen Rant, a source that has been deemed "unreliable to demonstrate notability" on WP:VG/S. I would think it still counts judging by its context and the three other sources being lists from reliable sources still citing its notability, I'll leave it up to the experts to decide.. NegativeMP1 (talk) 00:51, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

I vote no. Pocketgamer unfortunately really says nothing more than "This is a Roblox zombie game!". The other sources are all Valnet properties (ScreenRant and TheGamer are owned and operated by the same company), and we do not use them for Notability decisions. -- ferret (talk) 01:03, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
Brachy08 (Talk)(Contribs) 10:19, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

Is "Break In" even eligible?

The listing uses only two sources, one of which doesn't even mention Break In, and the one that does mention Break In is from a source called The Spinoff, which WP:VG/S doesn't list as reliable or mention at all, and the other uses HITC, which is the same case as The Spinoff. Even if the HITC one was valid, the entry would still only be backed up by one source.

I'm sure that because of the games popularity, it probably could just use source replacements, but as it stands right now both sources used in its entry are unreliable, hence why I don't think the game belongs on this list. I could be wrong though, I'll leave that it to the experts. NegativeMP1 (talk) 01:21, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

Update: As it turns out, way, WAY more games are not eligible because of the requirement of games "having their own articles".
All games that do not have their own articles of any sort but are still listed on this page:
- Break In (thread listed)
- Murder Mystery 2 (uses two sources, both from actual reliable sources but they aren't about it specifically and lacks any articles about it itself)
- Natural Disaster Survival (no sources are listed as general gaming, only one platform specific, all others are not listed on WP:VG/S and yet again are not about it specifically (off topic: how the hell is this game even remotely comparable to PUBG))
- Phantom Forces (all sources aren't listed in WP:VG/S, are lists that phantom forces is merely a part of, and no articles about it specifically)
- Royale High (all sources aren't about it in specifically and half of them are about Roblox stocks)
- Tower of Hell (all sources are not in WP:VG/S and arent about them specifically, rather just about other roblox obbies)
- Work at a Pizza Place (all sources aren't about it specifically and aren't from reliable sources, which sucks because this game is a classic)
Honestly, this sucks because all of these are some of the most popular games on the platform but they just don't have any sources about them themselves that are any good. Again, it's up to the experts though. NegativeMP1 (talk) 03:57, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
The LISTCRIT does not require the games have their own article. It requires demonstration of reliable secondary coverage. I would personally want to see 2-3 sources available. Break In fails this, having 1 non-independent primary source. The others I haven't checked. -- ferret (talk) 12:19, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- Murder Mystery 2: The source is fine, note that most games don't need their own article.
- Natural Disaster Survival: I'm not sure about it, I'd put it in further discussion
- Phantom Forces: Yeah, it uses three list sources, and I'd put it in further discussion
- Royale High: As much as I don't like the game, it stays. I deleted the part of the section with the
unrelated sources.
- Tower of Hell: It's gonna stay, the list source is a minority.
- Work at a Pizza Place: I'm gonna put it in further discussion. Brachy08 (Talk)(Contribs) 12:13, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 18 June 2023

Hello, LoginJokeson here, so I was coming to add a new game to the list known as Robot 64 and saw it was locked now to be frank I'm not sure if Robot 64 would be liable for its own page so I wanted to add it here I then saw that it was a Semi-Protected page which annoyed me so I'm asking for a basic plot synopsis and a couple of other basic things to be added and who knows maybe one day get its own page due to its semi-expansive development history (for a Roblox game atleast).

Thanks

Section for Discussion: Natural Disaster Survival, Phantom Forces and Work at a Pizza Place

On 27 May, 2023, NegativeMP1 pointed out some sections that seemed to fail WP:GNG, "Natural Disaster Survival", "Phantom Forces" and "Work at a Pizza Place", as they were based almost entirely on list sources. Should we keep or delete them? Brachy08 (Talk)(Contribs) 12:17, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

I know this is late but I feel the need to declare that I found some sources, that while technically lists, still greatly increase the notability and media coverage of these games and should basically lock them in or at least make their placement safe, especially Work at a Pizza Place. I should be able to incorporate them at some point unless there are any objections.

Five new potential games

Yesterday and today, I did some searching through the WP:VG search engine and found sources that could support five more games being added to the list. All but one of these I am pretty sure would be good to add, but I am just being safe and making sure I get a thumbs up before I incorporate them. My personal criteria was if the game was listed on three lists or more from reliable sources (several games I looked into such as Arsenal failed this).

These games and the sources that I could find to support them are:

Hide and Seek Extreme: [38][39][40][41][42][43][44]

Blox Fruits: [45][46][47][48][49]

Pet Simulator X: [50][51][52][53] (last one is velnet)

Speed Run 4 (maybe): [54][55][56]

3008 (questionable): [57][58][59] (last one is velnet, but is used to support FtF)

(There are a lot more games that I think may qualify from the sources I investigated, such as Scuba Diving at Quill Lake, but these are the ones I am prioritizing here as they are the ones I would know how to write about and integrate out of the rest.)

Update: Went ahead and added Blox Fruits and Hide and Seek Extreme to the page as they had the most mentions and lowest chance of objection. Not sure about the others yet.

Update: Three more games that might be able to be added after investigating those same lists I had sent already:
Anime Fighting Simulator: [60][61][62]
Scuba Diving at Quill Lake: [63][64][65][66]
Theme Park Tycoon 2: [67][68][69][70][71] NegativeMP1 (talk) 23:26, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Better description of "Original Games"

Right now the subcategory Original Games doesn't have a description under it, leading to some possible confusion as to what constitutes as an "original game" on Roblox. Is Sonic Eclipse Online eligible?

The game has one failed verification and two sources (including it), so I’m afraid it should be delisted. Brachy08 (Talk)(Contribs) 01:02, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

To give my few cents, I've been unwilling to add the game to List of unofficial Sonic the Hedgehog media, given available sources only discuss the child sexual abuse controversy around it as one of Roblox's apparent problems, not as or because it’s a Sonic game itself. Oh, and its entry in this list was added by an WP:LTA and with WP:BLP violations. ❤︎PrincessPandaWiki (talk | contribs) 18:01, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Going to be bold and remove it myself, list entry isn't even about the game but rather about the creator. Even if the sources existed, the way it's written right now ain't the way to do it. NegativeMP1 (talk) 22:43, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

A reliable source for.. what? I made an account just for this, and I just thought it should be mentioned. If you mean a source for the fact that Loomian Legacy is made using Brick Bronzes code, I guess I can't think of anything extremely solid for proof, just saying I was there myself doesn't hold water, but I can provide some proof. See the group "Llama Train Studio" (Weirdly, it didn't let me send the link here.) which is owned by lando64000, who created Brick Bronze.
And, there are the large similarities between Brick Bronze and Loomian Legacy. (see; footage of Brick Bronze, and footage of Loomian Legacy nowadays)
Also, it should be clarified, just in case, I rather meant mentioning it under the Brick Bronze section, not making it its own section. Dagon Fel (talk) 09:23, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
