What to do with province column - pop/area fields edit

Way too much work to do just now, as there's tons more IRs to add yet, and info on those already here also yet to be added; beeing mining INAC and BCGNIS all day.....the BC column is now redundant as this is its own page; thinking that two columns at that spot, with population (from StatsCan, not always avaiable though, depending on the reserve) and area. Search and replace will create teh fields; all has to be manually inserted, and cited; tons and tons of work for anyone who's into mechanical data-transfer.....Skookum1 (talk) 21:50, 16 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

coords column edit

It's a lot of to-do type work, including the idea above about using what's now the BC column, plus another one or two, for other purposes; all of these have official coordinates in BCGNIS/CGNDB which could ba added, which is more helpful location-wise than the nearest town or general region; such a column can only be sorts by latitude, not longitude (SFAIK); each coord should have teh {{BCGNIS}} and/or {{CGNDB}} as ref'd footnotes and as you can see when a FN has a large number of IRs I've just provided a link to them at INAC; which I've also done for those FNS whose pages include lists of their reserves (some of which have coords and {{GeoGroupTemplate}} now. Between sourcing coordinates and adding the ref templates, and sourcing population and area for similar fields at some point. More work than I want to do on it right now, but for anyone dropping by with some time, any new entries could at least have coordinates, with a "small" bracket, in the comments field added; they can be made into a separate colunn later.....Skookum1 (talk) 05:14, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Found census data edit

I was trying to find census data for Teslin Lake Indian Reserve No. 7 and Teslin Lake Indian Reserve No. 9, which are under the jurisdiction of the Atlin-based Taku River Tlingit, and was having trouble with the maze that is the StatsCan/Census of Canada website, and found the BC Stats Indian Reserve census count page by accident....it would help if one branch of the federal government i.e. INAC would interface its data with another branch of the same government i.e. StatsCan but nope, First Nations profile and reserve listings aren't anywhere near so helpful (nor are they, either, integrated with CGNDB or anything else...)....this was to try and find information for a mention of "Teslin, British Columbia" on the Stikine Region page, but there is no such place....I figured that Teslin IR No. 7 and Teslin IR No. 9 jointly might form a place known as Teslin, or Teslin Lake - but they're not on the BC Stats listing at all, indicating that they're uninhabited; there are some zero-population listings on that page but I gather those, perhaps, were previously inhabited; or they may reflect the refusal of some reserves to allow a head-count. Anyway the page seems very useful and it also gives the opportunity to expand this page's table with a population column, though I'm in no mood myself to do that right now....Skookum1 (talk) 23:55, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

List of Indian Reserves in British ColumbiaList of Indian reserves in British Columbia – (over redirect) per WP:TITLEFORMAT.

Although "Indian" qualifies as a proper name "reserve" does not, whether on its own or when part of "Indian reserve" (unless part of the official name of a reserve, such as "Foo Indian Rserve No. X", which is not the case here). It is "Indian reserve" according to the The Indian Act. The titles of all other Canadian Indian reserve list articles do not capitalize "reserve" (Canada, AB, NB, QC and SK). Same with "reservation" for American Indian reservation list articles (US, OR and WA). Hwy43 (talk) 04:33, 24 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Too late now, but I hotly disagree; which is why I created it Capital-R in the first place; look at any map, including federal ones, what is used; whether IR or Indian Reserve...there's a difference between the land designation and the concept of a residential reserve....this article and all those linked to it also have the further problem of using the French form of the name [X 'n'] whereas INAC's listings have [X Indian r/Reserve N] for the English name....and the band governments themselves use capital-R, despite being creations of the Indian Act.Skookum1 (talk) 09:30, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sechelt not yet included.... edit

Noted this line in the lede - " Former Indian reserves that have been extinguished by treaty or other means are also included." If that's to be the case, then the Sechelt Indian Government Districts, which are all former reserves, should be included; I don't have time right now, there's so many of them......there's historical reserves also extinguished long ago, during Gov Seymour's time, Lt-Gov Trutch undid a lot of reserves Douglas had allocated, as did the Vowell Commission and others.....lots of work to fully flesh these out.....Skookum1 (talk) 07:41, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

towards a full listing edit

I looked up INAC's full listing and was going to try and expand this to a full list but the links on their site aren't working today.Skookum1 (talk) 04:17, 12 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

lots of broken links edit

Most of the links for "complete list of X reserves" are broken. The lists on the GC site moved to different URLs. 70.67.56.84 (talk) 17:51, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
