Unreferenced entries edit

When I transeferred this list from its original site in Hampstead, I removed the following names for which no references were given for them having resided in Hampstead. I (and I hope others) will find references from reliable sources and gradually move the entries with an inline citation back to the list. Please remove the name or strike through once it has been added to List of Hampstead residents. – Voceditenore (talk) 09:56, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hampstead Area edit

I have removed both Childs Hill and Gospel Oak as neither were traditionally considered part of the 'Hampstead area' unless the old LCC Hampstead Borough is going to be the definition which does not seem appropriate in this context.Tmol42 (talk) 16:37, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I see your point. These "areas"/"districts"/"neighbourhoods" have fuzzy boundaries. I was thinking of confining the names in the list to people who lived within NW3. The northwest part of what people call "Gospel Oak" has NW3 postcodes (see also Gospel Oak), which is why I said that the Hampstead postal district included parts of Gospel Oak. But I'm happy to leave it out. In general, do you think NW3 is a good criterion for inclusion? Voceditenore (talk) 16:52, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
The area I'm talking about is Constantine Rd., Savernake Rd., Parliament Hill (street), etc.. I'd consider it Hampstead, but I've often heard others call it Gospel Oak, although never estate agents, of course. ;-). See also this. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 17:10, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I would consider anything beyond the junction at the bottom of Pond St and East Heath Rd / South End Road to be outside Hampstead. This would include Constantine Road, Fleet Road etc. Parliament Hill Rd and the adjoining Streets, having walked along them every day for many years they always felt to be outside 'Hampstead Village'. Parliament Hill (incl. PH Fields) although an extension of Hampstead Heath was also outside but I concede this is pure POV, lets hope nobody notable lived there! Everything on the Kentish Town side of Haverstock Hill below where it meets the top of Pond St down through Belsize Park could arguably and historically be considered not part of Hampstead although Estate Agents and residents of that part of Belsize Park would no doubt disagree so I would not push that nor want to start a row about this! I know what you mean about having a different 'feel' from Hampstead Village (we used to live on Parkhill Rd before moving to the posher side of Haverstock Hill) but by that criteria, the whole Parkhill Rd. crowd (Mondrian, Moore, etc.) as well as the multiple Isokon folk would be excluded. Yet, one can find reliable sources (not just estate agents) who call that area Hampstead. I think we have to base this list on what it's called in reliable sources, e.g. [1], [2], [3]. Moved Forte to Frognal which is where he lived though he worshipped at St Mary's RC chapel and supported it financially Cj1340 (talk) 22:06, 8 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

De Gaulle edit

I have added detail on period of his family's residence in Hampstead cited to a Shropshire newspaper report following his death (1970), whose most directly relevant story was headlined 'The year of exile in Salop'. French users and readers please note, 'Salop' is a colloquial (non-obscene) and abbreviative name for Shropshire.Cloptonson (talk) 21:42, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
