I think the book source comes close. Sources 1, 2, and 4 are all identical announcements of his retirement. Seeing as the text is identical, I would assume the announcement was submitted to various newspapers either by the firm or by his family, thus it is not independent. Sources 5 and 7 are his obituary, again likely submitted by his family and not independent. Source 6 is his wife's obituary, thus not truly about him and also not independent.
Regarding the book source, it appears to be an attempt to chronical as much about the lives and history of Straits Chinese in Singapore as possible. It devotes about 1.5 pages to Lim Koon Yang and his family. It is the only source currently present on the page that meets the requirements of WP:GNG. I'd like to see at least 2 more such sources to be confident he passes notability.
