Talk:Laurelhurst Theater

Neutrality and other issues edit

This article reads like an advert. Most of the references are from local reviews, which also calls the Laurelhurst's Notability into question. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.29.231.11 (talk) 20:41, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

LAT, Seattle PI, Oregonian, Willamette Week.. those are large regional and national sources. If you question notability, I'd suggest AFD. tedder (talk) 21:12, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
This page is mostly POV, but there are some leads in this page at Cinema Treasures about it being Portland's first widescreen, a 1953 remodel, etc. Valfontis (talk) 22:11, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Some in this book, as well as in the fantastic Bart King architecture book. tedder (talk) 22:14, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to add additional sources for future expansion! --Another Believer (Talk) 19:09, 13 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reversions edit

Anybody with ability should make corrections to POV before removing tags. If the tag is wrong we can put a basic POV tag on it until it is fixed, but to continually revert a good-faith tag is not helpful. 134.29.231.11 (talk) 00:17, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I find it odd you didn't fix the problem yourself. Do you have some COI in this matter? Valfontis (talk) 00:23, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Valfontis, I simply don't care enough about the Laurelhurst to spend time developing an article for it, I do however care enough about wikipedia to want articles to be written from the correct POV. The fact that is wasn't written with a neutral POV makes me question whether the authors have some association with the theater. 134.29.231.11 (talk) 01:15, 2 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Anonymous IP, there has been a fairly common consensus both here and in reply to your post at WP:EAR that the article isn't in bad shape. If you have specific objections to phrases or other specific parts of the article, please post them here. Either a small theater is employing parts of the active Wikipedia community or the consensus is sound. Either way, please help us improve this article! tedder (talk) 03:27, 2 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I needed some perspective I suppose. Danger was able to help provide that. Sorry for the nuisance. was hoping to help. 134.29.231.11 (talk) 00:54, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Trying to help is good. Beating a dead horse is not so good. Hopefully next time you'll honor the perspective of three experienced Oregon editors, including an admin, and speaking for myself, I really really really really hate POV-pushers, so if I thought this was an advert, I'd have nuked it. I've never even set foot in Laurelhurst. I do like beer. And movies. Thanks for getting a 4th opinion though. (And heeding it.) Good luck. Valfontis (talk) 07:21, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Architect Charles Ertz edit

Looks like Ertz has plenty of other things on Wikipedia, including a NHRP home. Might be time for an entry on him. tedder (talk) 22:38, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've got the (fairly inadequate) book on Oregon architects out from the library. I'll check and see if there's enough to write something. Valfontis (talk) 19:50, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
If it works, let me know and I'll help fill out the article either in your sandbox or in a Real Life stub. tedder (talk) 20:40, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Looks good edit

I don't have any more details to add at the moment. There might be another interesting thing or two in The Oregonian archives, but the stories tend to cover burglaries, fires, and other attention-grabbers rather than architectural details or details about when the property changed hands. What we have looks pretty good to me. One problem: citation 2 has a dead URL. I tried to find it with the Wayback Machine without success. Should we just change it to a newspaper citation without an URL? Finetooth (talk) 20:37, 27 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't know of another option. Thanks so much for your wonderful contributions. I'll see if I can find anything else when I have a few minutes. --Another Believer (Talk) 20:55, 27 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Done--thanks, Tedder. I added the archivedate, so the error message should no longer appear. --Another Believer (Talk) 23:04, 27 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Fantastic! You must know a Wayback trick that I haven't learned yet. Finetooth (talk) 01:38, 28 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Nice job guys! (I assume you're all guys!) Are there Oregonian archives anyone doesn't have access to? I might have better access through my library, I can't remember. Valfontis (talk) 19:53, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
