Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus to move the page to the proposed title at this time, per the discussion below, but I have created a redirect from the proposed title to this article. Dekimasuよ! 07:28, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

L'Étape du TourL'Étape du Tour de France – The organizer changed the official naming a while ago, see https://www.letapedutourdefrance.com. 80.129.175.222 (talk) 19:40, 21 July 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 18:31, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. Per WP:OFFICIAL, the official naming is irrelevant. What’s relevant is usage in reliable sources. In the absence of evidence that sources now use the longer name, we must leave it at the shorter WP:COMMONNAME. —-В²C 05:46, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose move per В²C. The official name should redirect to the common name here. O.N.R. (talk) 19:44, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: not moved. No conclusive proof yet that the target title is the common name in the English publications. (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 17:36, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

L'Étape du TourL'Étape du Tour de France – As per the move request dated 21 July 2022, the organizer changed the official naming a while ago. Additionally, the official naming has since been adopted in the majority of articles on the subject. There are 388.000 google hits for the new name 'L'Étape du Tour de France', whereas there are 567.000 google hits for 'L'Étape du Tour' which *include* the 388.000 google hits for the longer name - thus giving a total of 179.000 google hits for the old name alone. Notwithstanding the many errors in this calculation (which would only distort results in favor of the shorter name), this goes to show, that the new naming has indeed been adopted widely. Browsing through the google search results of https://www.google.com/search?q=%22L%27%C3%88tape+du+Tour+de+France%22 provides plenty of further evidence. 87.153.128.144 (talk) 22:12, 3 September 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 22:02, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment. To follow up, since I closed the previous request and this request is not attracting attention: I see only 50 Google hits in English for the proposed title, and many of those are not reliable secondary sources. Google News hits appear to favor the current title. Dekimasuよ! 08:02, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
    There are
    - 44.900 Google News hits for "L'Étape du Tour de France"
    - 55.700 Google News hits for "L'Étape du Tour"
    which leaves
    - 10.800 Google News hits for the old name alone.
This corresponds to a 5:1 ratio in favor of the new name.
I'm not sure why it is necessary to argue with facts against someone who fabricates pure fiction just for the sake of it. 87.153.128.144 (talk) 15:50, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
It seems you are focused on foreign language results or are using a short first page of results, which often yields inaccurate numbers. When I set Google News to English results, there are 23 results for "L'Étape du Tour de France" but they primarily include hits from the site endurance.biz. There are 112 English Google News results for "L'Étape du Tour" and they include hits from The Telegraph, The Guardian, and The Boston Herald. I am not invested in any title for this article and would have no reason to fabricate anything here. Dekimasuよ! 04:12, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
The number that appears at the top of the first page of search results is Google's estimate of how many indexed web pages match the search terms. There's a limit to the number of results Google eventually chooses to display. The number on the last page is the number of results Google has displayed. It has nothing to do with how many indexed web pages match the search terms. Any number of hits like "50", "23", or "112", is a fiction of this misconception.
The same goes for searching English pages only where there simply is no estimate at the top of the first page. 87.153.128.144 (talk) 11:12, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
