Merge into Mt Everest?

Should this page be merged into Mount Everest? Or is the concern that the Everest article is too long? Also, the picture is a little misleading (even though it is correctly labeled as the North Face). I would say no picture is better than the one currently here. -- Spireguy 16:40, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Merge I do not think many Wikipedians know about this page, hence the lack of response. None of the other faces have separate articles. Viewfinder 13:23, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Maybe it should be migrated to a new topic "Kangshung Glacer" as there are precedents for the two other significant glaciers around Everest. csearl

Keep I don't know how Hillary Step got merged, but the Mount Everest article is trying toodo too much with itself. Notable features on the tallest mountain on Earth should be enough for notability, especially with references on the many various stories about climbing the mountain. The Everest page is pretty long, that's true. But I'm still not sure that each feature (e.g. Hillary Step) and face needs a separate page. Perhaps one page such as "Faces and features on Mount Everest" to collect all of this info? -- Spireguy (talk) 14:06, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure how the 1988 expedition was more of a "landmark" than the first (1981) ascent of the Kangshung Face. The 1981 was a pretty impressive feat unto itself. It sounds as though the author of this just finished Venables book. -- csearl 15:51, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

@csearl..hrmm.. 1st sucessful Kangshung wall climb over the "American Buttress" was 1983.. ;-) And the 1988 Kangshung wall climb with Stephen Venables (the only on top) was (also) remarkable as he was so the 1st briton w.o. oxygen. --80.145.213.223 (talk) 20:39, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Not for Chomo Longma, "Mother Goddess of Earth". The Lama of Rongpu monastery was pleased everytime when the english approached the mountain saying that they were on a "pilgrim way" to Mother Goddess of Earth. "Landmark" character and facts of the 1988 climb

The 1988 climb of the Kangshung Face to the South Col emphatically was a landmark in Everest history, as it was completed by a small team - just 4 climbers - and without the use of supplementary oxygen. It ranks with Reinhold Messner's solo ascent via a partially new route on the North Face in 1980 and the Australian's first ascent of the Great Couloir (North Face) in 1984 as the "best" ascent in terms of style, and surpasses both in terms of technical difficulty. And it is wrong, as the article states, that Anderson, Teare and Webster got to the South Col.
