Reverted edits edit

I've reverted a major edit by an IP editor and left a message on their talk page, but in case it's not a stable IP address I'll copy it here:

Hallo, I have reverted the major edit you made to this article because there were so many problems that it was difficult to fix them all at once and easier to revert and start the changes again.
Problems included:
  • The References section was in the right place - you moved it
  • You tried to change the categories, leaving a lot of redlinked non-existent categories. If you want to propose new categories, fine, but you need to create them before assigning them to an article.
  • You created a lot of red links in the article: I don't have time right now to check whether any of them should have been different links to existing articles, but please don't make red links to topics which are unlikely to become an article at some point.
  • English Wikipedia doesn't use "th" etc in dates - so not "22nd November 2019" but "22 November 2019". (See WP:MOSNUM)
  • The lead paragraph needs to show why someone is in the encyclopedia. In your version the first paragraph was her early biography, no indication of notability.
There is a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it's an interesting journey. Happy editing!

I have removed the COI template since AFAICT it's no longer relevant or valid. Let me know if you feel otherwise. Crum375 (talk) 21:03, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Help me edit

I'm puzzled about my own entry in Wikipedia - I gather that there has been an attempt to enlarge the present very incomplete entry but, due, I think, to ignorance of Wikipedia's requirements by the person concerned (whose name I recognise but who has no commercial or financial interest in me or my entry), the attempted revision was taken down.

How can this be dealt with so the present incomplete entry is added to with relevant updated items and references (and a photo and infobox added - as requested by Wiki)?

I look forward to hearing further from you.

Kind regards,

Jeanne Socrates

P.S. I have photos of my arrival at the end of my last circumnavigation which I have been given to publish where I want to - can I use these on my Wiki page in response to the request for photo(s)?

If I want to post a photo from another source how do I let you know that they are happy for me to publish it on Wikipedia?

If it has already been published publicly on the Internet - is that sufficient to allow it to be posted on Wikipedia?

Thanks,

Jeanne — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seasocks (talkcontribs) 07:53, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

It merely being on the internet is insufficient; the rights to a photo typically reside with the photographer, not the person depicted in the photo(unless you have a contract or other legal agreement assigning you copyright). The person with the copyright to the photo needs to be the one to upload it; see WP:UPIMAGE for more information.
Regarding the article text, you are welcome to propose changes on this page, you may use either the Help Me process that you used here, or make your requests as formal edit requests(click for instructions). 331dot (talk) 09:13, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Seasocks: There is useful information at WP:AUTOPROB, but in short if there are problems in the article, or new information for which you can provide Reliable independent published sources, then please add that information here on the talk page, and someone will be likely to make appropriate changes to the article. Someone reverted the mass of changes made by "Mike Underwood92115" (who has made no edits to any other articles before or since) because he had swept aside a properly formatted Wikipedia article and replaced it with his own version which paid no attention to Wikipedia's style, referencing systems, etc. He said "updated text per Jeanne", implying that you had asked him to edit, or perhaps that he had copied from your own autobiography published elsewhere. After his misguided edits were reverted, I see that I used some of his suggested material to upgrade the article. Please tell us here what major omissions you still see, bearing in mind that not every detail of life or achievements will always be appropriate for inclusion in an international encyclopedia, and that Wikipedia only includes information which is already published elsewhere so cannot be the first place to publish, for example, details of your childhood. Thanks, PamD!
please see references below which cover
1) My 21Sept2023 induction into the Cape Horn Hall of Fame at Les Sables d'Olonne, France
2) The Cruising Association (UK) awarding me their Duchess of Kent Trophy twice (in Jan 2012 and in Jan 2020)
3) my Falkiner family connection to Australia - my father (John Alexander Falkiner) a RAAF pilot, killed in a crash in England in WW2 when I was nearly five weeks old, making me effectively fatherless. (My father should be mentioned as it shows my maiden name, at birth, as Jeanne Falkiner)
4) A plaque installed in June 2020 on Victoria Harbour's 'Wall of History' celebrating my two nonstop solo unassisted circumnavigations from and back to Victoria, B.C. (my photo)
5) A Special Award presented to me by the Cruising Club of America following my 2018-19 nonstop circumnavigation (my photo)
6) The Royal Lymington Y.C. made me an Honorary Life Member in January 2020 - see https://rlymyc-history.org.uk/eNewsletters/08-06-2020.pdf

https://www.sailworldcruising.com/news/237241/More-Grit ……. Duchess of Kent Trophy awarded (2nd time) Jan 2020. Also mentions Falkiner family and Aus RAAF pilot father (John Alexander Falkiner) killed in WW2 when Jeanne was 5 weeks old.
"Q: ..... How was it that you got to be here in Australia?"
A: "Well as you say, we're talking on ANZAC Day, just like we did two years ago. My father was an RAAF pilot and he crashed when I was five weeks old in England whilst retraining to pilot Halifaxes, having piloted Wellingtons, in which he'd completed 24 sorties over Germany. So that was really what brought me here, because I'd only just discovered that part of my family."

Deals with my on-stage session at the Southampton Boat Show in September 2023
I see that a photo showing my route around the world in 2018-19 was removed on copyright grounds - but it was not showing a Google Maps screenshot but was showing my own daily positions as posted to a website (now defunct) called Shiptrak, used by the ham radio website Winlink.org
Can I re-post that photo?
If none of the photos of me shown in these various links can be made use of, can I use a photo if I send the email from the photographer who gave me 'carte Blanche' to make use of it (and others taken at the same time)? How else can a photo of me be uploaded? Seasocks (talk) 01:11, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
