Saraswati Samman edit

Ismat Chughtai is currently listed in the Saraswati Samman article as receiving the award in 1990 for Urdu Literature, but the award was not initiated until 1991. Early sources say Bachchan received the first award. Aside from sources that appear to derive from the Wikipedia, I have found nothing that indicates that Ismat Chughtai ever received that award. Before the K.K. Birla Foundation website went down (January 2014), she was not listed as a recipient. The citation in this article for the award is not verifiable, and while findarticles.com may be a fine tool, it is not a source. I conclude that the mention of the Saraswati Samman award should be removed from this article. --Bejnar (talk) 10:26, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Replaced with 1990 Iqbal Samman (Iqbal Award) from Rajasthan Urdu Akademi with citation. See also The Crooked Line book blurb. --Bejnar (talk) 16:23, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Discussion edit

Ismat Chughtai (21 August 1915 – 24 October 1991) was an Indian writer. Begining the 1930s, Chughtai wrote extensively on themes relating the female sexuality and femininity, the middle-class gentility, and the class conflict, often from a Marxist perspective.(ref1 and 2) With a range incorporating literary realism, she became a prominent voice of Urdu literature in the 20th century, and was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 by the Government of India.(ref 1 and 3)

Pinging Ssven2, Yashthepunisher, Krimuk2.0, Shshshsh, Kailash29792, and IndianBio (editors who have worked on articles related to Indian artists). Could anyone of you point out the parts of the above paragraph that qualify as puffery? GorgeCustersSabre has suggested that it is. VedantTalk 04:59, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think words like 'extensively' and 'prominent' should be avoided, also the beginning of the last sentence should be more neutrally worded. Yashthepunisher (talk) 09:56, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
