I've only seen two reliable sources so far that detail his career before the Illinois Central scandal. The New York Times obituary says that he started working for IC in 1907, but Railway World says he was with the IC in 1904. Which is correct? For now, I'm leaving it as the NYT puts it until I find more evidence to support Railway World's assertion (which ultimately seems to me that it would be correct rather than the NYT), because I found the obituary before the Railway World notice.
