Animation?

edit

The /Film source says the series is going to be animated, but I don't remember Feige saying that in the original announcement and Marvel.com doesn't mention it being animated. - adamstom97 (talk) 03:25, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

You're right, Feige didn't mention it, but I went off of /Film because they did, so I'm not sure why they would call it animated since Feige didn't say it. I'm honestly not sure myself if it's live action or not. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:56, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
It feels like a reasonable assumption to made, so if the official sources don't say then that may be it? I feel like they would have made a bigger deal if they had decided to make a second animated series, like they would say that they are really happy with What If? or something. - adamstom97 (talk) 04:05, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
True. I'm happy removing any mention of animation until we get further clarification. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 04:09, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
On Marvel.com "I am Groot" is in Tv Shows section. I think it must be in tv series here too. Lado85 (talk) 10:04, 14 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Concept Art with Drax

edit

So some concept art by Mark Hurtado was found and includes Drax, idk if we’d put him in characters but I’d guess Production’s Animation? https://whatsondisneyplus.com/marvels-i-am-groot-disney-short-series-concept-art-revealed/ RobbyB3ll4s (talk) 03:25, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

This does not come from a reliable source and isn't even "concept art", but, if it was, a character appearing in concept art does not mean that they will actually appear in the show. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:01, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ryan Little a writer on this series

edit

According to What If showrunner A.C. Bradley, Ryan Little wrote this series https://twitter.com/TheAshBradley/status/1459209847124025344 Is that enough to be included in this article? -TrixieCat123 (User talk:TrixieCat123) 08:49, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Bradley's tweet should suffice for now, so I have added it to the article, but we will still need a better source. Trailblazer101 (talk) 12:29, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Is Kristen Lepore the head writer too?

edit

Per the press release as published on Futon Critic, it states The writer/director is Kirsten Lepore with no mention of Little. I'm curious if the MovieWeb source perhaps was referencing this article or other mirrors that pulled from our article? In any event, per the press release, I'd say we need to possibly adjust what we're indicating here. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:41, 6 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

The fact that Lepore is noted as the writer for this lines up with her prior writer/director credits on shorts, but does raise questions. Lepore could have written the shorts with Ryan Little, and since A. C. Bradley said Little was writing this, that holds weight. We don't actually know who is the head writer, and it very much could be that MovieWeb and other sources took Little as head writer from this article or mirrors of it, as you said. I would suggest adjusting it to say Lepore and Little serve as writers, and maybe stave off saying who is the lead or head writer until we get more details. I was already thinking of doing a c/e, and it could be During the Disney+ Day event in November 2021, Kirsten Lepore was announced as the director and an executive producer of the series. At that time, Ryan Little, a writer and script coordinator for What If...?, was revealed by that series' head writer A. C. Bradley to be writing for I Am Groot. Lepore was confirmed as a writer of the series in June 2022, when it was confirmed to consist of five shorts. Trailblazer101 (talk) 03:02, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
That sounds good. I'll try making such adjustments. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 01:26, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Nice. It all looks good to me. Trailblazer101 (talk) 02:43, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

FYI, the fact sheet again just says the "Writer/Director" is Lepore. I hope the shorts have credits, because it's possible Little could have been a staff writer, and not a head writer? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 21:15, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Top 10 Twitter Buzz

edit

Variety has an article detailing I Am Groot placing #2 in the Top 10 Twitter social engagements from the week of May 30 to June 5. I'm not sure if this is notable or if we include this type of information, but just noting it here. Trailblazer101 (talk) 03:25, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

El Capitan Theatre premiere

edit

the El Capitan Theatre will exclusively screen the I Am Groot short "Magnum Opus" before specific showings of Thor: Love and Thunder from July 18–24. It's the 4:15pm showings on July 18 & 19 then the 1pm showings for the rest of the week. Only The Direct has reported on this. — SirDot (talk) 04:37, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

We can use the tweet, as it is a verified and official source, for now, until any better third party sources report on it. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:00, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

"Magnum Opus" plot

edit

Hello! I'm planning to add the plot of "Magnum Opus" and treat this as the first shorts (or episode since we are going to use the {{Episode table}} template) since it was already shown to the public between July 18–24 (although in select screenings during Thor: Love and Thunder). Also planning to retain August 10 as the original release date with a note stating that it was screened in advance on those July dates or something related to it. What do you guys think? Centcom08 (talk) 08:33, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. Best to keep "Magnum Opus"'s episode number as TBA until its number on Disney+. — SirDot (talk) 09:32, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Done. Although I did not include a note for the short's premiere since it is already detailed in the Release section. Centcom08 (talk) 09:59, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Brad Winderbaum and canonicity

edit

As stated in the article, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum has said this series is set after the main events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2014, suggesting "this is canon". Given I'd prefer an actual Marvel executive over just a writer/director (James Gunn), I would like thoughts on this. Should we restore it being set in the MCU? — SirDot (talk) 22:51, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don't think Gunn ever said the show wasn't canon, it was always part of the MCU. He just said that it wouldn't necessarily be tying in with the movies directly. So I think this timeline info is just additional information rather than contradictory information. - adamstom97 (talk) 23:25, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SirDot, adding to the issue with I Am Groot's placement in the MCU timeline, Kristen Lepore now stated in an interview with D23 that the shorts take place between the first Guardians of the Galaxy film and Vol. 2 post-credits. Winderbaum and Lepore have a conflicting statement on where the shorts start, but given the first episode's synopsis, I'll go with Lepore here. This will have changes with the two Guardians Wikipedia articles and I Am Groot's Lead section. What do you guys think? Centcom08 (talk) 09:10, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Centcom08: I think the first short will be set between Guardians 1 and Guardians Vol. 2 (given Groot will be taking his first steps), but the rest will he after Guardians 2. — SirDot (talk) 14:42, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I concur with SirDot. They all will for the most part be after Vol. 2 except that first one. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 18:13, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Synopsis of each short

edit

Apparently, The Direct publishes a report about the synopsis of each of the five shorts, including all of their titles, their order of release, and comments on each from Lepore, from a Disney official press release (which I can't find it from Disney's side like from their media kit, etc.). For now, I'll be using The Direct source to rearrange the Episode table and include all of the episode titles only. Centcom08 (talk) 02:43, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Found it. And you won't believe what I also stumbled upon: Disney's extremely well-hidden press site ! It's practically a treasure trove of high-res images and written materials (including press kits for most Phase Four films, which could potentially be valuable). Might want to add this page to your bookmarks. InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:19, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@InfiniteNexus Oh wow! That is awesome! Amazing you've found this. A treasure trove to explore, indeed. Thank you, will definitely bookmark this! Centcom08 (talk) 08:09, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Episode articles

edit

Not sure if we plan on individual articles for each short, but if we are, here is a poster for episode 1 -- Zoo (talk) 19:24, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Individual episode articles are unlikely because these shorts are like 3–5 minutes long, but there is some commentary from Kristen Lepore in The Direct article in the above discussion. — SirDot (talk) 19:35, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I would avoid trying to stretch these out to episode articles unless we get a whole bunch of episode-specific info. We should be able to just fit it in here. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:17, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree. I think because they are all so short, we can put any info on this article. I already did so in a sense with info from the Production Brief. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 21:19, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

New fast forward opening?

edit

This might be a bit FORUM-y, but for anyone who's watched the new shorts, they once again have Groot fast forwarding over the logo, but more like jump skipping it. I was going to add this article regarding it, and I could have sworn for the first set, it was more like a "sped up"/VHS style fast forward, not the jump skipping. But when I went to rewatch a season 1 short, it had the same opening as the season 2 ones. Am I going crazy misremembering this, or does anyone else recall the "sped up" version? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 02:13, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

They did change the season 1 intro. I saw something about it yesterday on Reddit. -- ZooBlazertalk 02:23, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
You're not crazy, Perception has the original video. InfiniteNexus (talk) 03:53, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
This is kind of odd. I suppose they just wanted to have a variety of logo changes. I know they're using that sped up logo fanfare for all of their D+ productions, though this change caught me off guard. I'm sure adding information on this to the article would not hurt, as to explain it to others who may also be equally confused or taken aback at first. Trailblazer101 (talk) 04:22, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for confirming I remembered correctly. I don't know how we can state that it changed, because the Collider source we have doesn't really describe the fast forward style and the new ComicBook.com doesn't either. I'm open to suggestions. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:55, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Direct has now noticed this, finally. Hopefully others will follow, but if not, are we open to giving them another exception...? InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:21, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Good looking out! I think if nothing else comes out, then yeah, we should use it. It's nothing rumor/speculation based, and is reporting on fact, so it should be ok. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:56, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Writer/director columns in the episode table

edit

Piggybacking off of Trailblazer101's edit, while I don't agree with the series overview template change, I'd be happy to discuss removing the directing and writing columns from the episode table. Given Kirsten Lepore is the sole writer and director, we could put in prose after the overview table that she is that, and remove the columns. That is acceptable, though not commonly done, in the television project if one person is the sole creative. Thought there can then become push back from others because "they aren't there anymore and tables always have these columns". Courtesy ping to Adamstom.97 too. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:07, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

My intention with adding the writer and director paras to the overview was to provide more of an overview of the series (and aid in transcluding that info to the outline). While I understand it is not a common practice (and I admittedly could not find other instances of it), I do agree that it may be best to avoid repeating the instances of Lepore for every episode in the tables and that just noting it in prose would suffice. I can reasonably expect some pushback, though. Trailblazer101 (talk) 16:22, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm not strongly against Favre's suggestion of putting it in prose, but I do think it is unnecessary. We don't usually remove these columns when they have the same person for each episode, just like we don't usually remove the release date column for series that are released all on the same day. I don't have a problem with repeating her name so many times, especially when it is broken up by the summaries, and in my opinion it looks better to not have so few columns stretched out. We also don't usually put writer/showrunner info in the overview tables, and it is the same for the whole show. - adamstom97 (talk) 19:18, 7 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Are there any other MCU TV series this would apply to? Again, while not very common, it is something that can be done within the TV project. Here's what it would look like. Also note in this instance we should reduce the template to not be fully spanning the width of the page. (Note in the example below I set it to 60 as I couldn't get it to work as the auto width for the time being.) - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:12, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

We have a few MCU series with a single director for each episode, I don't think we have any other single writers off the top of my head. - adamstom97 (talk) 06:11, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
