Company name

Does anyone know if the company name is in any way related to the classic short story collection I, Robot? The I, Robot page states as much and a citation is needed to back it up if it is true. Thanks. Sbacle 15:03, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

• Does anyone know what year they chose the iRobot name? It says it was founded in 1990, which would precede Apple's use of iMac and iPod. It would be worth adding the year that started using the iRobot name. JettaMann (talk) 15:33, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

• From what I remember when iRobot was IS Robotics it had a telepresence robot named iRobot (which may or may not come from Asimov). The product was a flop and has been all but forgotten. Nevertheless, the company changed afterward to its current name. Needless to say, finding sources for this annoying due to all the false positive ( IS Robotics -> is robotics....?, and good luck on finding the original iRobot product). this points to the name and [1] notes that IS Robotics aka iRobot was around at least before '97. The final tidbit I have is that isr.com redirects to irobot.com--hinting at irobot's past. I believe iRobot was iRobot before apple started its 'i fetish', but I don't have any sources to back that up.

Marked for deletion

I just saw it was marked for speedy deletion. As a Roomba owner, I find the article useful, and I think it is pretty NPOW. Speedy deletion seems a bit hasty, IMHO, even though it surely could be improved. I don't have the competence to do it though. It's a little ad-like, but that's mostly the style. As the article mostly traffics in facts, I can't understand why it's been flagged for deletion. Surely the solution is to wait patiently for the (many) marginally satisfied and dissatisfied users of this product to flesh out the article and provide multiple points of view. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.63.239.136 (talk) 05:16, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

• A thought for anyone who might contemplate deleting this in the future: the Roomba is a pretty iconic piece of hardware, and the PackBot is used quite extensively by the US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan. It might be one of the more notable robotics companies out there, and certainly the one of the first most American robot aficionados are likely to think of. Haikupoet (talk) 07:02, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Ordinance vs. Ordnance

Per merriam webster (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ordinance) ordinance (with an "i") is defined as authoritative order or degree. While ordnance (without an "i") is defined as military supplies including weapons, ammunition, combat vehicles, and maintenance tools and equipment (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ordnance). What needs to be done to have my change reverted back to accept "ordnance" without an "i"? My original edit was reverted with the comment, "nonconstructive edits." Using the word "ordinance" when the word "ordnance" is correct is factually incorrect. Thank you. Hillarin (talk) 03:41, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
