I'm finding it difficult to digest the fact that this new user is against adding a link to the D-STAR/D-RATS item. It baffles me. Anyhow, the article could very well use a section on technology used. Some of the communication tools that ARES uses are standard amateur radio items. But as the article stands it doesn't even mention packet. Dear Jheiv: Thanks for telling me the rule. I did read them but unclear how to apply to my case. Your points are more specific. It takes experience. First, why am I interested in interactive network simulation? I have trouble to learn protocols in the past and wish to use simulation and visualization to get to the key points first, then read complete and accurate information provided by traditional materials. Now I a tool to do so. I want to share. Here are some questions that I'd like to seek for your help:

1. Will Wikipdia find a way to let users contribute content presented in different forms like interactive simulation? Is there any experiment going on?
2. I have no intention to add url in article to be index by Google. (I thought it flows better. Readers can "see" a demo while reading accurate text.) Is placing url in External links acceptable?
3. In External links of "Sliding Window Protocol," I see two demos (Flsah and Shockwave.) I added a Flash based simulation below these two demos. I thought it will be OK. But it was removed. First, I want to say that my warning on your talk page was as a result of this edit, which, as far as I can tell from your contributions, looks like the only edit you have made to the Sliding Window Protocol page -- please correct me if I'm wrong. That edit seemed like an editing test or vandalism, and I quickly noted a few other warnings about policy problems with your edits, so I went with the level 3 warning. Please don't take offense to the warning -- many users without the interest in improving articles come and edit pages maliciously and it's extremely difficult to tell the malicious from the well-intentioned. That being said however, it seems as if you have good intentions and, although I am by no means an expert, but I'll do my best to answer these questions and help you. I'll answer each question separately.

(Quick note, I link to a lot of policy / articles within my response -- please consider taking the time to read all of them, especially the policy ones.)

1. Will Wikipdia find a way to let users contribute content presented in different forms like interactive simulation? Is there any experiment going on?

   I'm not aware of any experiment going on that will allow users to experience interactive simulations. However, if you are looking for "richer" media, many Wikipedia articles feature things that are more dynamic than plain text. For example, the article on Dijkstra's algorithm features an animated gif that shows the progression of the algorithm as does the article on Breadth-first search. These are especially helpful in my opinion and make use of some of the advantages a digital encyclopedia enjoy.

2. I have no intention to add url in article to be index by Google. (I thought it flows better. Readers can "see" a demo while reading accurate text.) Is placing url in External links acceptable?

   There exists some pretty extensive policy documentation on external links, here -- I suggest you read that (a few times, it can be confusing) and if you have specific questions about whether a certain external link is appropriate for an article, start a discussion on the external links noticeboard, a forum where many experienced Wikipedians offer their input about the acceptability of a given link in the hope of finding consensus.

3. In External links of "Sliding Window Protocol," I see two demos (Flsah and Shockwave.) I added a Flash based simulation below these two demos. I thought it will be OK. But it was removed. I do not understand why. (If you play this simulaation, it shows how to relate window parameter values changes to window's sliding actions.)

   I can't find your edit (it must be under an IP rather than your username) so I can't really help you with those specifics. But like I said, make sure that any external link you wish to add meets the criteria at WP:EL before you add it. If you are certain it does, but it is removed then you have a few options.

   1. Start up a dialog with the editor who removed it, and see why they object.
   2. Start up a discussion on the article's talk page about the link and whether it should be included. If you do this, it's nice to notify the editor who removed it that you have started a discussion on the article's talk page and hope they'll be able to add their input.
   3. Start up a discussion on the external links noticeboard (link above) and see what their opinion is.

   An important tenant of Wikipedia policy is to be bold but to always seek consensus, especially if the edit is contentious.

4. I intend to share. i can create a web site such as abc.org and place url pointing to abc.org. Is this acceptable?

   I think my earlier answers probably covered this, but in summation, it depends on the context, on the article you wish to insert a link into, the value of the external link you wish to add, whether the same material can be incorporated into the article itself (without requiring an external link) as well as many other factors. If you have specifics, I'd suggest starting a thread on the article talk page. I may already be following the page, but once you start a discussion on the talk page, feel free to come back here and ask for my input.

Lastly, I'll point you to a few more places that might be of interest to you: WP:WELCOME, WP:HELP, WP:POLICY.

Sean Bielat

Look I am not going to dispute the Bielat page anymore. The article will change after the election next month. If Bielat doesn't win he probably will no longer have any claim to notability anyway and the article will most likely be AFDed, but we'll wait for the election results. However if you think that stating that "However, many note Scott Brown's upset in Massachusetts' 2010 special election as cause for some concern for incumbent Congressman Frank", when Brown has not even endorsed Bielat and has nothing to do with Frank, is not POV while pointing out that Massachusetts, whose entire Congressional delegation is Democratic, is "overwhelmingly" Democratic, is POV then I do not know what to tell you. You don't seem to have any problem with the adjective "self-made" (which I inserted by the way), so your instincts seem to be somewhat skewed. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 12:57, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Well I agree it is someone's POV, but it's clearly cited as to whose POV it is -- in fact, I think keeping that makes the article more NPOV in that it adds balance. I still don't understand your Brown argument, however. I read the article like this: its clear the odds are stacked against him (Democratic leaning state), but there is some hope (Scott Brown's upset). Without that, it seems like a futile (although many may argue its futile nonetheless) effort.

I didn't notice self-made, you are right that many of the changes you made I didn't object to -- only the ones that were unsourced and introduced POV.

Lastly, I agree with you that the article will probably be much less notable if he loses the election -- and I, too, suspect it will fail notability. jheiv ^{talk contribs} 19:22, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

(edit conflict) I think you are a bit confused on the policy. The word prestigious isn't being used to assert notability of the subject of the article -- that is, Penn State -- but rather to help the reader understand the satellite campus system and how the campuses fit together. Further, as use of the word is now sourced from the Executive Director of admissions of the university, I plan on replacing it if it is erroneously (imho) removed. Tussey Mountain

Why do you remove my edits as vandalism? PSOC Ski Patrol is an organization pertinent to Tussey Mountain. We are employed there and have been around longer than the resort itself. There is no copyright violation because I have permission to use the content from the website cited as a copyright violation by you. I removed the edits for a number of reasons. First off, just because you have permission, doesn't mean you can add it to Wikipedia. See the policy at Donating Copyrighted Material. Second, much of the information is not appropriate for the article and goes unnecessary depth about what I can only assume is you and your friends. See the policies at WP:NOTPROMOTION, WP:COI, WP:SOAPBOX, WP:NOTABILITY. Wikipedia is not a place for you to mirror information that is already on the web. New England Wikimedians is excited to announce a series of Wikipedia edit-a-thons that will be taking place at colleges and universities throughout Massachusetts as part of Wikiwomen's History Month from March 1 - March 31. We encourage you to join in an edit-a-thon near you, or to participate remotely if you are unable to attend in person (for the full list of articles, click here). Adrianne Wadewitz Memorial edit-a-thons

Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows: May 21st at Northeastern University's Snell Library, in the Digital Scholarship Commons on the second floor May 22nd at Brown University's Rockefeller Library, in the Digital Scholarship Lab June 25th at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (exact location TBA), where we will also be hosting a "how to conduct an edit-a-thon" session beforehand We hope that you will be able to join us, whether you are an experienced editor or are using Wikipedia for the first time.
