Philemon Hou edit
Discogs says that Philemon Hou - the credited writer of "Grazing in the Grass" - was, in fact, Masekela himself. However, this suggests differently - that Philemon Hou was an actor and singer who was in the studio with Masekela when he recorded his first album. This book gives Philemon Hou as a South African exile in Liberia, who was deputy director of a university drama group in Monrovia and taught the students anti-apartheid songs. Another book says that Philemon Hou was a Zambian composer. Philemon Hou is listed as a jazz musician here and here, and as an actor here and here. His family - here - give his name as Ramapolo Hugh Masekela, rather than Hugh Ramapolo Masekela. I'm unsure if this is sufficiently noteworthy to be added to the lead. Thoughts? Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:15, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- It looks very much like that was his actual correct name and the article should reflect that. I guess the problem for us is that very many other reliable sources have reported the names the other way round. I also think that the statement should be added as a source to support the fact and circumstances of his death. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:29, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- The BBC calls him Ramapolo Hugh Masekela here (as does Ronnie Scott's here). On the other hand, his son here calls him Hugh Ramapolo Masekela. Very confusing. He also seems to be known quite widely as Bra Hugh. Googling 'bra "South Africa"' does not seem to give me useful answers. Perhaps a South African editor can shed some light on this.
