Proposed removal of redundant publisher information

A number of citations in this article unnecessarily include the publisher for periodicals and websites that have their own Wikipedia article. This information has no value to anyone wanting to check or track down references. For example, publisher=Washington Post Company for references to The Washington Post, or publisher=MLB Advanced Media for references to Baseball-Reference.com, only make the article longer - significantly longer when repeated many times - without adding anything useful. Therefore I plan to upgrade the article's citations to remove all such redundant publisher info, bringing them into line with the recommended use of the cite template (see Template:Citation#Publisher). Early naming

The new team was nicknamed the "Quakers"... in 1884, the team changed its name to the "Philadelphias"

Um, no and no. The team, like most at the time, had no name at all; "Quakers," "Philadelphias" and its reduction "Phillies" were all monickers used by sportswiters, but never by the team until 1933 Solicitr (talk) 01:12, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Merge with the Philadelphia Phillies page

Is there a way to merge the page with the Philadelphia Phillies page by any chance? I see no reason why there are two pages of Phillies history. Both pages have information that the other does not have, so we should combine them instead of keeping them separate.SBLII (talk) 15:03, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

I agree on this. The history page should just remain on the team's main article. No sense in having this page, which does not have much information. Whiterabbitzero (talk) 09:09, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

Bill Veeck transaction

This article states, "However, in 2006, Jules Tygiel published an article in the 2006 edition of Baseball Research Journal which proved Veeck indeed planned to buy the Phillies." However, the Tygiel article clearly states, at page 114: "The overall assessment of Jordan, et al. - that Veeck's notion of buying the Phillies and fielding a team of Negro League stars never quite moved as far from the drawing board as Veeck claimed - may still be true. We still lack any solid evidence that confirms that Veeck had not only conceptualized this action, but made a firm offer to buy the Phillies and met a rebuff by Landis and Frick." On the same page, Tygiel concedes that though Veeck's story originated years before his memoir was published, "In all of these accounts the only voice telling the story remains Veeck's."Arnold Rothstein1921 (talk) 02:25, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
