Confusion about which Hangar One

edit

This article about the Hangar One at Moffett Field in Northern California was written so far without awareness of the Hangar One in Southern California. Therefore, it is possible that information included here, including the photo of a blimp which arrived from Lakehurst New Jersey, may be incorrect. That may be a photo of the blimp in Southern California.

To be clear, the Hangar One (Los Angeles) in southern california is listed individually on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The one at Moffett Field is not separately listed on the National Register, but may be a contributing property in a historic district that is listed. doncram (talk) 17:29, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article is correct. The photo is US Navy archive photo NH 85746, and they describe it as Macon at Moffett Field. The National Register listing that encompasses Hangar One at Moffett Field is #94000045, "US Naval Air Station Sunnyvale, California, Historic District". gparker (talk) 17:10, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Current use and condition

edit

The article states that "Hangar One is today the focal point of NASA's Ames Research Center," but gives no indication what, if any, use it currently has. The omission suggests that it is not currently being used in any form, and the external links make it seem likely that it is not even available for visitation (due to PCB contamination). Does anyone here know of references that specifically address its current use? -- Thinking of England (talk) 04:49, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's not being used. We want you to wear booties if you go inside. The problem isn't just PCBs but also old lead (Pb) paint and other issues. "Focal point" is rather an embellishment; the Center is off to the side where the old Navy base wasn't. I think most of the Mythbuster episodes are in hangers at the former Alameda Naval Air Station. Some outside H1 shots or b-reel may appear briefly when they film local coworkers like Kurt, but not really inside H1. 143.232.210.150 (talk) 19:52, 2 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 10 January 2023

edit
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Hangar One (Moffett Federal Airfield). There appears to be consensus for this move. As argued in the discussion, this new title maintains consistency. I also see a consensus for a move to Hangar One (Moffett Field), but appears to be have weaker support. (non-admin closure) Wikiexplorationandhelping (talk) 04:09, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hangar One (Mountain View, California)Hangar One (Moffett Field) – The hangar is located within a larger complex commonly referred to as Moffett Field; formally Moffett Federal Airfield, which is managed by NASA's Ames Research Center which is also present on the site. The complex itself is on a parcel of federally-owned, unincorporated land in Santa Clara County, between Mountain View and Sunnyvale, and is not part of either city while bordering both. For the sake of accuracy, I propose that the disambiguator be changed from Mountain View to the name of the federal complex that it is part of. Ham Pastrami (talk) 19:52, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
