Tejas Mk2 → HAL Medium Weight Fighter – For naming precision as per WP:NAMINGCRITERIA. Tejas-MK2 has been rechristened "Medium Weight Fighter" after going through significant design changes through the years. It is now a completely different design, much in the same way Su-35 is different from Su-27. — Vaibhavafro 💬 07:39, 15 November 2019 (UTC) —Relisting. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 07:20, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose – Your cited source says "India is redesignating the Mark-2 upgrade of the homegrown Tejas aircraft as a medium weight fighter due to its increased weight and weapon carrying capacity." How is this a rechristening? Dicklyon (talk) 18:47, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

- Fair enough. Let's wait and watch.— Vaibhavafro 💬 08:27, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

Requesting Move 08 May 2021
editrequesting a minor title change from HAL Tejas 'Mk2' to simply HAL Tejas MK2 or HAL Tejas Mark 2, as that's how it is mentioned in official records.[1][2]--E1Char (talk) 04:22, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Max Speed
editThe claim that max speed is at sea level is unsourced and since it's common practice that aircraft max speed is at altitude unless sea level is specified, it's the unsourced claim that it's at sea level that needs to be verified since it deviates from common practice not the other way around.919181512a (talk) 01:20, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- I forgot to type that Mach 1.8 at sea level would make it the fastest fighter jet in the world.
- Here are some Mach speeds at sea level for common jets: F-15 M1.2, MIG-31 M1.21, F-16 M1.2, Rafale M1.1, Typhoon M1.25, Gripen M1.2, SU-35 M1.13, F-22 M1.21 919181512a (talk) 21:52, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Care to cite reliable sources? So far, you have only provided original research. - ZLEA T\C 21:55, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- The article would only need a source for speed at sea level if it actually stated a speed at sea level. The article doesn't claim a maximum speed of Mach 1.8 (or any other value) at sea level. The words "Sea level" do not appear in the article, so I don't know where this comment comes from.Nigel Ish (talk) 22:29, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Your right it doesn't claim sea level but the unsourced converted speed (max speed kmh) 2385km/h does indicate a convert at sea level or actually it's greater than M1.8 at sea level.
- Maximum speed is maximum speed and since these kind of jets fly faster at altitude max speed is at altitude unless sea level is specifically specified.
- That is why i removed max_speed_kmh and used cvt to calculate the convert speed at altitude from the sourced M1.8 value.
- I used max altitude as it is common to do so, at higher altitudes the speed doesn't change much if i use 10000 meters instead of 15240m in the convert the difference in max speed will only be 10km/h.
- I looked at the history of the article to trace the origin of the 2385km/h value and it is an convert from an older max speed value of M2.0
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=HAL_Tejas_Mk2&diff=prev&oldid=1043266652
- It got moved to max_speed_km
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=HAL_Tejas_Mk2&diff=prev&oldid=1043328947
- The Mach value got updated to M1.8 but no one updated the max_speed_km and it has been wrong ever since.
- I also looked for the origin of the older M2.0 value and it was an unsourced change from M1.8
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=HAL_Tejas_Mk2&diff=prev&oldid=969149118
- The origin of the value for max_speed_km is known and it's also known that it's wrong according to the sourced value of Mach 1.8 so maybe we should revert back to my edit that actually converts the sourced value at altitude.
- Using convert might prevent this error from repeating itself since the Mach value and cvt is in the same parameter. 919181512a (talk) 01:25, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing out the unsourced max speed. I've removed it for now. As for converting it to km/h, I think it would be best to wait until reliable sources start giving the max speed in more precise units. - ZLEA T\C 04:16, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
