I am pretty sure the part of the history that describes how the pizzeria became known as Grimaldi's is incorrect and is contradicted by a number of New York Times articles from the 1990s. Grimaldi's was opened in Brooklyn by Patsy Grimaldi as Patsy's. The articles do describe him as the nephew of Patsy Lancieri, who opened Patsy's on 116th Street in East Harlem in 1932. The articles also describe how, after Lancieri's death, the original pizzeria was sold to employees. Later, the owners made a deal with the Tsouros family, which opened the Patsy's on Third Avenue near 34th Street and later one on the Upper East Side. When Grimaldi opened his Patsy's in Brooklyn, the owners of the other Patsy's--its not clear from the articles if it was the Tsouros's Patsy's, the original one, or common ownership--objected to Grimaldi's use of the name "Patsy's" for his pizzeria. Eventually--The Times does not have consistent coverage of the dispute--Grimaldi changed the name of his pizzeria. By the time he sold it and retired, it had been Grimaldi's for a number of years, and the sale had nothing to do with the name change. I would just edit this article to conform with facts as stated in the various Times articles, listing them as sources, but I am hoping that someone has more detailed and accurate facts with cited sources, perhaps from any litigation that might have taken place or from local/neighborhood newspapers that might have covered the issue more thoroughly the The Times.
