Name edit

I have a copy of the unabridged A Christmas Carol, and this spirit is named The Ghost of Christmas Present, not the Spirit of Christmas Present. Can we agree that this needs to be changed? Canonblack 03:10, 7 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

1800? edit

The Ghost of Christmas Present would only exist for a single Christmas, and die on the stroke of midnight. The 1,800 previous ghosts of Christmas Present were his brothers.

People did not observe this holiday on the 25th until about 300 years after the alleged birth of Jesus of Nazareth, and J of N could not have been born after 4 BCE.

This is true. But the facts of the matter don't change what Dickens wrote. Daibhid C (talk) 22:50, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Besides, if you read the text carefully, you will notice that the spirit says *over* 1800 brothers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.198.10.33 (talk) 22:25, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
In Disney's 2009, animated version of "A Christmas Carol" featuring Jim Carrey's talents, the Ghost of Christmas Present states he has/had 1,842 brothers.
I'm not sure where the film's writer got that number from.

Original Story versus Adaptations edit

I made some changes to the article to make it conform to Dickens' own text. While there are many memorable Ghosts of Chrstmas Present in film and stage adaptations, I feel this article should reflect Dickens' own creation. MacPhilbin (talk) 14:17, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Because it's ridiculous in context. This is fiction, and only Scrooge could be serious about this much humbug.

You are gravely mistaken - this is an encyclopedia, a scholarly compendium. No material can be inserted or remain here except that it is referenced to scholarly sources WP:RS. You may want to read Help:Referencing for beginners. Myself and others have added appropriate maintenance tags - please do not remove them. Rather, improve the article as they suggest, and bring discussion of your improvements here to the talk page. When consensus is reached that the article has met the burden imposed by the tags, a knowledgeable editor will be appointed to remove them.Sbalfour (talk) 18:50, 28 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Adaptation where it actually looks like a big Christmas present? edit

I'm sure I saw a cartoon, years ago, where the Ghost of Christmas Present was a huge Christmas gift, complete with ribbons and fancy wrapping paper. Does anyone know what it was I saw? I think it should be added to the page if anyone can remember it. 90.214.108.162 (talk) 00:27, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merge to and integrate with Character section of A Christmas Carol edit

To keep this discussion together, please comment on this talk page. MichaelMaggs (talk) 14:16, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The article has now been re-written, and as the discussion at Talk:A Christmas Carol#Ghost of Christmas Present notes, is now worthy to be kept as a standalone article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:46, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@MichaelMaggs and Ssilvers: The problem is that the article still fails WP:NFICTION/GNG. It is a pure plot summary plus a listing of appearances in related media. It needs a reception/analysis section. Which scholars analyzed this character? Did someone wrote as much as a paragraph about their literary significance? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:18, 12 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Scholars have analysed the significance of the Spirit to the story and this information and the relevant citations from various academic sites added to the article. Jack1956 (talk) 10:36, 13 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
