Honorary doctorate was not given to him

Just a note that the statement in the Canadian Encyclopedia and on the Athabasca University page that this Georges Bugnet received an honorary doctorate from the University of Alberta appears to be incorrect. This UofA site states that the degree was given to Georges M. Bugnet, an LLD. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 19:18, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

That's interesting, and a little perplexing. What to believe? Could the UofA site have printed his middle initial(s) incorrectly, do you think? It seems a stretch to imagine there were two Georges Bugnets worthy of honorary doctorates at that time - or could Bugnet be a common Canadian surname perhaps? Do you know what LLD stands for? I'm not sure which avenue to proceed down - obviously the article shouldn't state that this Georges Bugnet received such an honour, if he didn't! PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 08:42, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

LLD presumably stands for Legum Doctor. I wondered if one of his sons studied law, but this site says he didn't have a son named Georges. I haven't succeeding in finding any description of what UofA honorary degrees have been given for (don't they say something publicly about what accomplishments are being recognized?) It's strange. I wonder if he heard at the age of 100 that he'd been given an honorary degree, and if he had a good laugh about it because it wasn't him. It would be sad if it was him, and UofA made a mistake.
