Gasparyan or Kasparyan? edit

The name of this article has changed once already, but I'm not sure that it was a good move. All of the English language reference books that I have checked (Brace, Sunnucks, Golombek, Hooper & Whyld) have him as Kasparyan or Kasparian. The article itself states that he is better known as Kasparyan outside of Armenia and a Google search of "Genrikh Kasparyan" versus "Genrikh Gasparyan" favours the former by more than 2:1.

I would therefore vote that we change the name back to Genrikh Kasparyan. If you agree, please indicate SUPPORT below. If not, then OPPOSE. I'd be grateful if you could attach your name and any reasons you wish to give.

  • Support for the reasons given by the proposer. I am sympathetic to the desires of some to "de-russify" Armenian names, but wikipedia is a source-based encyclopedia, and English language sources universally spell his name beginning with a K. Another example is Jeremy Gaige, Chess Personalia (1987). This is the standard English language reference for basic biographical information on chess players. The relevant entry in Gaige is "Kasparian, Genrikh Moiseevich" with no alternate spellings given. Quale (talk) 23:34, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - I've usually (perhaps always or almost always) seen it with a "K". Bubba73 (talk), 03:57, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
