My understanding is that the good Dr. was named Hermann Muller.^[1]

The "epynomous" "Muller Thurgau" grape was named in his honor, against his wishes, after his passing.^[2]

Further, the "Thurgau" came from the place where he was born, the Swiss Canton of Thurgau.^[3]
