Merging with Gau (German)

Great updates on this article. The article, however, is actually about the rank of Gauleiter not what an actual Gau is. The definition of a Gau, and a list of Gaus from Nazi Germany, should probably go over to the actual Gau article. I've placed a merge notice to that effect. -Husnock 23:39, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Page improvement

This is generally a very weak page IMO. It makes the Nazi-period Gauleiter sound like a boy scout troop with badges and club discussions. The Gauleiters were deeply corrupt, cruel individuals many of whom conducted a reign of terror and ruled with total power. I will work up more on it and would welcome other editor's contributions. I also have removed the link/reference to Belgian history which has little relevance to the Nazi German Gaus. MarkThomas 07:04, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

This page is also very weak on translations. Leiter does NOT, repeat NOT, mean 'leader' (although of course they are related etymologically). This is a classic case of a false friend. Leiter means 'manager'. ('Leader' is 'Fuehrer', of course.)

That would be opening up a big can of worms, although I believe you are correct. Albert Speer complicated things in later life as, whenever he spoke English, he would say "Gau Leader" when speaking about these people, many of whom he personally knew. -OberRanks (talk) 05:29, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Link to Belgium page

I've looked right through the Belgian site link, which a user insists is relevant, and it isn't, so I've deleted it again. MarkThomas 12:58, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

I am being forced to repeatedly delete this entirely bogus and irrelevant link and will continue to do so using popups from now on - this is justified as it is a case of vandalism. Any editor in doubt can check out the contrib history and discussions of Fastifex who has been mindlessly inserting bad links into pages for some considerable time. Nickname

In Germany the title Gauleiter is used for far-right politician whose last name is similiar to Gauleiter to make fun of them: Alexander Gauland [1] and Peter Gauweiler [2]. --DorianGray88 (talk) 15:25, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Those appear to be two isolated incidents, and the sources are opinion pieces out of two newspapers. There are no mainstream reliable sources which support that this is a widespread nickname for politicians. The inclusion goes against WP:RS, WP:TRIVIA, and WP:FRINGE.
