Frei Caneca StreetRua Frei Caneca – Per the other streets in Category:Streets in Brazil. The Evil IP address (talk) 21:52, 19 July 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. George Ho (talk) 08:21, 26 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment would you also use "Rio" instead of "River" etc? -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 04:23, 20 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
    • Oppose As this is English Wikipedia, the generic terms should use English, not Portuguese. Rename all the other articles instead. -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 04:23, 20 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
    • Oppose. Per Wikipedia:Naming conventions, use English. There's also significant usage of "Frei Caneca Street" in works like the Encyclopedia of Contemporary Latin American and Caribbean Cultures. Prburley (talk) 01:06, 21 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per English sources including Lonely Planet Brazil etc. While there are a few uses of "Frei Caneca Street" WP:CONSISTENCY means better to keep in line with the lesser known streets, and this street is really not that notable. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:06, 21 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Mixing languages like this generally looks awful. The names of streets should generally be left in their native language. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:16, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose usage seems to be mixed in English language sources so per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English), the title should remain where it is. Hack (talk) 05:13, 27 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
    • Apparently some, but not all. See above. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:29, 27 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
      • Yeah, that's my point. Hack (talk) 12:55, 27 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
        • Only if most English-language sources use the hybrid version. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:48, 27 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment I created a redirect from Rua Frei Caneca just now without noticing this discussion. I generally think the names of places should remain in their native language for what that's worth, but I don't care enough to make this a pet issue. As long as people can find what they're looking for it's not a big deal. giso6150 (talk) 12:27, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
