The Mythical Hawksworth Pacific

edit

Keeps coming back like a bad penny. Not one of Nock's finest moments. Its been thoroughly exploded by L A Summers in "Swindon Steam" isbn 978 1 4456 1681 0 and "Backtrack, 14, 238-44." It seems some preliminary studies on what a new pacific might look like were done at the drawing office, completely unauthorised by Hawksworth or the board of directors, and when Hawksworth found out he put a stop to it immediately. There's even a story that Hawksworth destroyed with his own hands the diagram that Nock referred to. Summers quotes Hawksworth as saying "I can say quite categorically that anything you may have read or heard about a proposed pacific type design ascribed to me is pure conjecture and completely without foundation. Such a design was not even discussed." Can we stop bringing the thing back now? 212.159.44.170 (talk) 00:16, 23 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
