2008/2009

Maybe I'm making more work for myself, but am i the only one that thinks this page needs a major face lift? The MGM Grand at Foxwoods has been open for 8 months now, not to mention a lot of it's basic information has changed/been updated. At the very least, I would like to add a list of the various outlets currently in the facility... but I think it would also be a good idea to vastly expand the MGM Grand information (if not outright making a whole new entry referencing back to here). What's most notably missing right now are the 700+ employee layoff that occured October 2008; updated MGM Grand at Foxwoods information; updated gaming area/machine information. Slots $$ Consistency

In one place in the article, it states that Connecticut receives 25% of slots revenue, an amount that in 2007 was around $200m. In another place, it states that Foxwood slots handled $9.5B in 2003, and that Connecticut receives 25%. Since I can't imagine revenue went from $9.5B in 2003 to $800m in 2007, something is fishy here. Drhamad (talk) 02:21, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I think the correct figure here is 25% of the slot take (or income) which I think may also be classified as revenue although that's more of an accounting question. The $9.5B is probably the total amount that the slots "handled" or what was put through them. Zimm0who0net is right, the compact between the state of Connecticut and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation stipulates that the state receives 25% of slot machine take, or profit, every month. This is different from the handle, which is the amount of money that goes through the machine. The handle includes money paid back to patrons (which can vary from 60% to 90%, depending on luck). Largest Casino?

There are several Macau (Chinese) nationalists on Wikipedia who believe that the Sands Macau Casino is the largest in the world. The Sands Macau gaming floor measures approximately 229,000 feet, whereas the Foxwoods boasts 340,000 feet. They are making contradictory claims HERE and HERE. They are not backing down. By the numbers, Foxwoods is still the largest by floor space. However, Sands Macau does claim 740 table games compared to Foxwoods 380 (that's 95% more). Foxwoods also has 7,000 slot/video poker machines. Sands Macau claims 1,254 slot machines, so it is not a direct comparison. I'm still inclined to say Foxwoods is the largest casino in the world because it's measurement is in an SI unit, whereas Sands Macau is claiming the title on number of table games, which isn't a unit of measure... just a quantity. However, the Sands Corporation does claim the title in this press release. --Meadowbrook 05:09, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

slot machines are deliberately not expanded as Asians don't feel interested in it. Again, I don't care if the casino is larger than 1 billion square feet, if it has lesser tables, it doesn't mean anything. Standard casino only count tables, but not the numbers of bingo, slot machines, video poker. Why not put one table in the baseball stadium and claim it is the largest casino in the world? I don't deny that Sands Macau can claim largest title, but you have to put the qualifier on it that it is measured by number of table games. Similarly, Foxwoods needs the qualifier that its as measured by gaming space. --Meadowbrook 09:08, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

What do I mean by nationalist? Nationalist: devotion to the interests or culture of a particular nation including promoting the interests of one country over those of others. That's what I mean. To me, it does not matter WHERE the casino in question is located. America, China, Brazil, I DON'T CARE. I care about Wikipedia having accurate information, whereas it has become abundantly clear that you are here to promote your agenda at any cost. I don't care about Foxwoods. I don't care about Sands. I care about truth. If you could find a third party to back up your claim, this debate would end immediately. But you can't, or you won't. How is it possible to claim that Foxwoods or Macau as the largest. What about Mohegan Sun?

As of Sept 2009, on its website [2] Foxwoods claims to be the largest casino in North America. Mohegan Sun is undergoing an expansion [3] but I haven't seen a direct area comparison. Theme Song

I'd really like to know more about the Foxwoods Resort theme song. That's the one they used from 2001-2006 approximately. I think it's called, "The Wonder of it All". I really want to find that song and download it, but I have no idea if it's an original song that swingers like the Rat Pack would have sung, or if it was written specifically for the commercial. Most slot machines claim

I removed from the article the claim that Foxwoods had the most slot machines of any casino. Based on the numbers on their respective websites, Foxwoods claims 6300 machines, and Winstar World Casino claims 6700. I don't know if any others have more than Winstar, but it appears Foxwoods does not have the most. 68.97.28.139 (talk) 03:13, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
