Fidel Chaves de la TorreFidel (footballer, born 1989)WP:COMMONNAME is just Fidel, as per all external references. Ortizesp (talk) 21:27, 22 June 2019 (UTC)--Relisting. DannyS712 (talk) 22:23, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Fidel Chaves de la TorreFidel (footballer)WP:COMMONNAME of this footballer is just Fidel, in every reference and external link. Always omits his last names. No other footballer I could find that goes by the mononym Fidel. Ortizesp (talk) 14:10, 26 November 2019 (UTC) Relisted. PI Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 23:58, 8 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Support although the player in not among the most popular and recognizable (to which the WP:COMMONNAME is mostly applicable) all the sources refer to him as Fidel. Also there are no other Fidel-s (just the name) in Spanish football at the moment that he could be mistaken for him or vise versa. --Less Unless (talk) 15:42, 26 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose as per previous RM, there are other footballers by this name (eg Fidel Martínez as well as this and this). GiantSnowman 09:50, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Fidel Martínez doesn't play under the name "Fidel". This player isn't eligible for a WP page as he didn't ever play in a fully professional league, and this player doesn't have a WP page and isn't notable enough to have one as he has 1 professional appearance in his whole career. The only player that plays under this name on Wikipedia is Fidel Chaves de la Torre.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:37, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support, presuming this is the only footballer known just as "Fidel", no other footballer would be expected to be at this title, so there is no ambiguity. --В²C 00:43, 7 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Fails WP:NATURAL. Parentheticals should not be easily accepted as part of a title, and certainly not for clumsy PRIMARYTOPIC claims. Fidel is Castro. In football, there are Okoye Tacardon Martinez Edwards and NnaBuife. Every player, for commercial benefit, would like to try for a mononym. Wikipedia should not get involved in that game. Rename to Fidel Chaves, per the native language article, would be reasonable, the current is a bit of an official surname that is awkward, and is it common to drop the land reference for surnames alluding to ancestral nobility. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:33, 7 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Support Fidel Chaves as an alternative, although I disagree with the logic. Mononymous footballers are common, and I think Wikipedia should name pages according to how they are and not unsuitable legal names.--Ortizesp (talk) 19:09, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
      • Parenthetical PrimaryTopics are quite controversial, and unnecessary. This footballer certainly is not PT for “Fidel”, and the Wikipedian affection for parentheticals is almost absurd. Is WP:NATURAL important or not. Fidel Chaves as the article title of the native language article is, I think, a very strong argument. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:49, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
